Overview

Our client designs and manufactures custom container handling equipment. They specialize in providing solutions for managing, orienting, and conveying containers of various shapes and sizes to improve packaging line efficiency and productivity for diverse industries.

The Sr. Controls Engineer designs, develops, and implements control systems to automate and optimize industrial processes, ensuring efficient, reliable, and safe operations. Ideal candidates will have a passion for problem-solving and a minimum of 5 years of experience in automation, with a focus on delivering tailored solutions to our clients.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Create PLC, Advanced Motion, and HMI Programs from the ground up for various Allen Bradley Controllers, including new equipment prototypes and support for assembly area testing.
  • Develop and implement standard electrical designs for new and existing equipment.
  • Oversee the Panel Build process in the panel shop, monitoring daily progress.
  • Integrate and develop Vision Systems for applications such as Orientation and Feature Detection using various vision tools.
  • Serve as a consultant and mentor for junior engineers on the team.
  • Review customer specifications meticulously, develop project plans, and coordinate schedules across multiple departments, including sales and applications.
  • Frequently interact with customers to review project plans, share integration information, and develop installation strategies.
  • Prepare Operator Manuals, User Manuals, One Point Lessons, and other necessary project documentation.
  • Travel occasionally to customer sites for startups, installations, or to resolve field issues, including integrating new equipment with customer systems and supervising installation electricians.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ensure electrical designs comply with UL requirements and adhere to local, state, and federal codes.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Technology, or a related field is required.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in electrical engineering design is highly preferred.
  • Strong team player with a drive for success and a positive company culture; commitment to getting the job done right for the customer, embracing the company's “Support Built In” philosophy.
  • Proficient in applying engineering principles, techniques, and procedures to the design and production of products.
  • Experience with Motion Controls and Ethernet/IP networks in an automation environment is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, ability to use data-driven troubleshooting techniques, and collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement solutions.
  • Familiarity with business and management principles related to strategic planning, production methods, and coordination of resources.
