POSITION SUMMARY: 

Kelly and The National Institutes of Health (NIH) invite applications for the role of Senior Radiochemistry Research Scientist within our dynamic team. This critical position focuses on advancing molecular imaging through the synthesis and optimization of radiochemical probes, particularly for positron emission tomography (PET). The ideal candidate will bring robust experience in chemistry, including expertise in analytical and organic chemistry, and will play a pivotal role in developing new methodologies for PET radiotracer production, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. This role demands a blend of hands-on scientific work and leadership in managing laboratory operations and safety protocols, making it ideal for a candidate looking to impact both research and operational aspects of radiochemistry. 

 

TASKS. The contractor shall: 

  • Synthesize and optimize chemical probes for molecular imaging applications. 

  • Develop and validate analytical methods for PET radiotracer analysis. 

  • Perform complex syntheses of radiotracers using automated synthesis devices. 

  • Ensure compliance with all pertinent regulations for radiotracer production and analysis. 

  • Develop and implement new chemistry methodologies and technologies to advance the field. 

  • Maintain and calibrate high-performance liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry systems. 

  • Train staff on new experimental practices, equipment operation, and safety protocols. 

  • Lead efforts to automate probe production to increase throughput and improve safety. 

  • Manage and maintain detailed records of experiments, analyses, and method developments. 

  • Prepare and present findings for publication in scientific journals and at conferences. 

 

REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have: 

  • Doctorate in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field. 

  • Extensive experience in analytical and organic chemistry, including hands-on expertise with High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR). 

  • Demonstrated experience in the synthesis and analysis of radiotracers for PET applications. 

  • Proficiency with laboratory software including MS Office and specialized software such as NIH POTS. 

  • Strong manuscript writing skills and a proven track record of scientific publication. 

  • Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to manage cross-functional teams and coordinate laboratory maintenance.
