Scientist

Location: Watertown MA
Pay rate: $90.00 – $104.00 Per/Hr. BOE

Relationship:

The scientist will report to the head of the department
Internal relationships include working closely with technical staff and scientists within the department as well as with the head of Target Discovery Engine US. Moreover, the individual will work closely with scientists within the cardiometabolic therapeutic areas across the global Research & Early Development (R&ED) organization, with project managers, and with other technical experts across the global organization.
The scientist will interact with external research collaborators both academia & industry.
The individual may supervise and mentor less experienced team members.


Essential Functions:

Proven subject matter expertise in the field of: Micro physiological Systems, cardiometabolic dis-ease research (in particular obesity & Type 2 Diabetes biology, preferred experience with adipose or vascular biology or insulin resistance).
Demonstrates a specialized knowledge of advanced in vitro models and engages relationships with other key areas related to drug discovery and development in the pharmaceutical industry.
Work with full autonomy on complex tasks requiring specialized knowledge of strategic im-portance to the area.
Take part in the organ-specific disease model development efforts especially within adipose tissue, vascular and insulin resistance.
Drive the in vitro technology development in multidisciplinary teams, guiding junior scientists, and working closely with the external partners on specific model development projects.
Effectively communicate and collaborate across global sites and sets project strategy by providing leadership of cross-functional project teams.
Contribute and lead external collaborations to develop the MPS technology platform


Qualifications:
Minimum Degree: BS/BA. At least 12 years relevant technical experience required. Master's Degree with 8 years relevant experience or PhD with 2 years relevant industry or post-doctorate experience can be considered.
Required experience includes: Profound expertise in cell culture and developing advanced human in vitro model systems. Specifically, multicellular obesity/cardiometabolic models including setting up disease relevant functional endpoints.
