This is a long-term contract position which offers:

TASKS. The contractor shall:
Assist and communicate results with the Federal Task Leader and the staff scientists as well as other collaborators.
• Provide critical care and intervention of an anesthetized animal patient, knowing when there is a health issue and how to correct it.
• Respond to emergency situations with animal patients within the prescribed time period.
• Clearly communicate any changes in animals' health status to facility veterinarian and appropriate team members.
• Perform experiments using centrifuge, CBC machine, Chemistry machine, i-STAT, glucometer,and other equipment to collect data and organize the results for manuscript preparation.
• Perform blood draws, catheter placement, intubation, injections, BALs, necropsies and other technical needs in NHPs and rabbits and mice.
• Process blood and tissues according to specific needs of multiple experiments.
• Execute detailed necropsies collecting samples as requested.
• Maintain accurate animal records and documentation associated with technical procedures of the animals.
• Manipulate infectious and radioactive NHPs and rabbits in a safe and proficient manner.
• Distribute samples from necropsies and other procedures to other labs doing the analysis, track samples and return of generated data.
• Collect and organize data, perform data analysis, write procedures and SOPs, and keep
inventories.

REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:
High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of two (2) years of working experience in a lab setting in scientific related field.
• Demonstrates knowledge of maintaining accurate and detailed records.
• Demonstrates knowledge of proper laboratory disposal methods and safety procedures.
• Proficient computer skills with spreadsheets and other software to record data.
• In-person work in the BSL-3 laboratory and in ABSL-3 laboratory with NHPs, rabbits, and
mice, required.
• Effective and clear communication skills and the ability to work in a high stress environment.
• Ability to work in a team under oversight in ABSL-3 laboratory environments following SOPs.
• Must be able to pass extensive background check and Public Trust 5 clearance.
• Willing to work flexible hours, weekend work possible.
• Work quickly and efficiently with others and independently to generate high quality,
reproducible data.
