JOB SUMMARY
The R&D Innovation Scientist is a pivotal role, driving product development and improvement through advanced experimentation. The position focuses on delivering innovative solutions, solving complex technical challenges, and mentoring team members. Expertise in coatings technologies/markets is essential.

DUTIES
• Lead product assessment, development, and quality enhancement through clear and accurate experiments.
• Drive innovation through strategic R&D programs.
• Develop new products, improve existing ones, and address complex technical issues.
• Identify and lead strategic projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams.
• Provide technical solutions to customer problems and contribute to product development.
• Preserve technical knowledge through periodic reports and documentation of formula changes.
• Collaborate with sales, marketing, and manufacturing teams for efficient product introductions.
• Develop innovative coating products aligned with market requirements.
• Mentor technical professionals and lead multiple complex projects simultaneously.
• Implement the Stage Gate Process in product development.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper calibration and documentation.
• Independently lead projects/groups without direct supervision.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's degree in STEM field
• 10 years of coatings formulation experience.
• Experience with solvent-borne and/or radiation-curable coatings.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Global lab and customer interaction experience.
• Proven mentoring skills.
• Familiarity with coatings industry finishing equipment/processes.
• Ability to differentiate between colors for accurate paint tinting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Master's Degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Coatings Technology, or related field.
• Proven team-building skills.
• Expertise in radiation-curable coatings and/or coil coatings.
• Direct leadership experience.

JOB DETAILS

  • Job Type: Full-time, on-site
    • May require up to 20% travel.
  • Target Salary: $95k+/year, increases dependent on relevant experience and skills
  • Location: Minneapolis, MN
  • Relocation assistance is available for out-of-town candidates.
  • This position is not able to work remote/hybrid.
