Process Automation Technician job description-
Role Overview:
The Engineering Solutions Department of the Company's Plaquemine, La site has a need for a Process Automation Technician for work in the Process Automation Systems Sustain and Support group. The workload requires one (1) FTE (Full-Time Equivalent) Process Automation Technician who will provide support and sustain services for a diverse set of process control systems. A preferred technician will consistently demonstrate a proactive aptitude in supporting an ABB 800XA chemical manufacturing process control platform base with care and good communications so that chemical operations execute smoothly without unplanned events.
Typical Work and Deliverables:
As part of the Louisiana Operations Engineering Solutions Process Automation Support and Sustain work team, the Incumbent will be required to perform the following tasks:
- Actively participate in Site and Corporate Safety programs. Safety is our Number 1 priority!
- Provide customer consultation on process control ABB 800xA and Mod300 hardware, system software, device communications, and control networks at St. Charles Operations in Louisiana and occasionally at other sites in Louisiana.
- Routinely implement minor upgrades and expansions to process control systems utilizing GPM.
- Participate on a rotating basis to provide 24-hour on-call process control problem and resolution support service coverage for Louisiana Operations site Users.
- Perform process control system hardware and software audits.
- Debug process control system hardware and system software problems.
- Maintain updated program documentation and system program backups.
- Work as part of an integrated design team to meet project requirements and deliverables.
- Work as part of project team to provide facility startup coverage.
- Point of contact for shipments and inventory management associated with the company's Inventory Access Program with ABB
Candidate Attributes:
- Ability and proactive desire to learn and retain knowhow about an ABB 800xA base in a chemical manufacturing facility.
- “Sensitivity to” and “implementation of” work process diligence and carefully coordinated group communications with operations' personnel when modifying, maintaining, or upgrading process control systems used for chemical manufacturing.
- Good listening / interpretive skills.
- Reasoning and problem solving skills.
- Knowledge and/or experience in software programming and troubleshooting as related to chemical unit operations.
- Ability to communicate and work with diverse discipline project teams
- Ability to perform work and projects with minimal supervision and oversight.
Education:
A High School education as a minimum requirement.
Preferred Knowledge and/or Experience:
- Experienced with ABB 800XA, 800M and Select IO is required.
- Strong background in ABB 800xA and Mod300 process control systems.
- Strong background in instrument and electrical (I&E) technology and in process control system (or PLC) maintenance.
- Device communications and control networking knowledge and experience
- Proficiency in standard office workstation tools:
- Microsoft® Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint®)
- Candidates with process control applications experience are preferred.
- Candidates with working knowledge of chemical manufacturing facilities are preferred.
The preferred candidate will have at least 2-3 years of ABB 800xA work experience installing, maintaining and configuring ABB 800xA hardware, system software, device communications, and control networks.
