Pilot Line Technician
Kelly® Science & Clinical is seeking a Pilot Line Technician for a 6-month contract position at a cutting-edge Client in Emeryville, CA. Schedule: Mon-Fri Day 7am Start
Overview
As a Pilot Line Technician, you will be responsible for managing the R&D pilot line, supporting product development through assembling, maintaining, and optimizing prototypes and pilot runs. This role requires close collaboration with R&D scientists to document formulations, manage equipment schedules, and oversee inventory and sample storage/shipping. You will also play a key role in ensuring the successful commercialization and scale-up of products by attending plant trials and staying updated on ingredient technology.
Responsibilities:
Pilot Line Operation
- Coordinate pilot line activities for R&D, ensuring materials, production, packaging, labeling, and documentation meet all safety, food safety, and sanitation requirements.
- Maintain equipment in optimal condition, including setup, calibration, and cleaning of pilot processing equipment.
- Manage inventory of equipment, parts, and supplies, while maintaining supplier relationships.
- Troubleshoot and coordinate equipment maintenance.
- Collaborate with the lab manager in implementing food safety and sanitation plans for the pilot plant.
- Maintain organization and ensure GMP/GLP compliance in the pilot plant.
- Complete pilot plant trial reports and manage all pilot line documentation, including SOPs, ingredient/sample records, inventory logs, formulation and processing notes, cleaning records, and final pilot run reports.
- Create and update SOPs, and conduct safety, food safety, and sanitation checks for the pilot plant area.
- Associate degree in Engineering, Mechanics, or a related field.
- Experience in a Pilot Plant, with strong mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues.
- 2+ years of experience in small equipment maintenance, such as food service equipment, food & beverage pilot plants, or bench-top/pilot line sample production.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong ability to maintain and repair small equipment.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions, remain flexible, and manage pilot plant operations while meeting deadlines.
- Exceptional record-keeping skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, with demonstrated ability to self-motivate and handle multiple priorities.
- Excellent interpersonal, influencing, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Must be able to lift and transfer heavy ingredient bags and equipment as needed.
