Job Title: Analyst II – PFAS (LC/MS/MS)

Location: Wilmington, NC
Schedule: Second Shift (Weekdays until 11 PM) + Full Shift on Saturdays
Pay Rate: $23.00/hr (Contract Role)

We're looking for an experienced Analyst II to join our specialized PFAS (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances) team. If you're passionate about environmental science and hands-on analytical work, this is a chance to contribute to meaningful projects using advanced LC/MS/MS instrumentation in a high-impact, fast-paced lab setting.

What You'll Do

As a core member of the analytical chemistry team, you'll play a critical role in supporting environmental monitoring and regulatory compliance through accurate, high-quality PFAS analysis. Reporting to the Group Leader, your responsibilities will include:

  • Sample Preparation & Analysis
    Prepare and analyze environmental samples (e.g., water, soil, air) using LC/MS/MS in compliance with methods such as EPA 537.1, 533, and 1633.

  • Instrumentation Operation
    Independently operate, maintain, and troubleshoot LC/MS/MS systems including calibration and performance checks.

  • Data Acquisition & Interpretation
    Utilize software such as Analyst, MassHunter, or TargetLynx for data capture and review. Ensure data integrity and resolve QC anomalies.

  • Method Development & Optimization
    Assist with improving existing analytical workflows and developing new methods as required.

  • Documentation & Compliance
    Maintain accurate records in notebooks and electronic systems. Follow all lab safety procedures and quality control standards.

  • Collaboration & Mentoring
    Work closely with junior analysts and help guide their technical development.

  • Support Functions
    Assist with inventory, sample disposal, and lab organization as needed.

What You Bring

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related science discipline

  • 1–2 years of hands-on lab experience, including 1+ year operating LC/MS/MS for trace-level analysis

  • Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Familiarity with EPA PFAS methods and environmental QA/QC practices

  • Comfortable working independently and within a team

Preferred Experience:

  • PFAS sample preparation and analysis per EPA 537.1, 533, or 1633

  • Experience using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)

  • Background in training or mentoring lab staff

  • Knowledge of ISO 17025, NELAC, or TNI quality systems

Working Conditions
  • Lab environment with exposure to solvents, reagents, and environmental samples

  • Use of PPE in accordance with safety protocols

  • Requires sitting for extended periods and occasional lifting (up to 25 lbs)
