Payroll Coordinator (Contract)
Location: Milwaukee, WI
Position Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Coordinator for a full-time, onsite contract role located in Milwaukee, WI. In this role, you'll ensure accurate and timely payroll processing for a range of employee groups—including union and non-union staff, administrative personnel, and board members—within a dynamic business environment. Key Responsibilities
- Process weekly and bi-weekly payroll cycles for multiple employee classifications
- Retrieve, validate, and import employee work hours for payroll
- Verify payroll corrections, status changes, special rates, and insurance premiums
- Manage vacation, sick leave, floating holidays, and vacation pay
- Guarantee timely salary input and payroll transmissions
- Enter payroll records in accounting systems and maintain employment records
- Answer employment insurance questions and support payroll-related audits and SOX compliance
- Respond to payroll matter inquiries and resolve issues for employees
- Support year-end payroll and compliance processes (T4, R1, CSST/WSIB)
- Prepare month-end reports and handle requisite documents, including pensions and union dues
- Accurately process complex pay scenarios including garnishments, tax levies, and deductions
- Maintain confidentiality and integrity of employee and payroll data
- Cross-train and provide coverage for other payroll staff as needed
- Payroll processing experience with various employee groups, ideally including unionized staff
- Strong understanding of payroll, HR, data entry, payroll tax, and general ledger dependencies
- Knowledge of federal and state payroll compliance and SOX controls
- Proficient with payroll and HRIS systems, and Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong attention to detail, organizational, and communication skills
- Experience with audits and working in confidential settings preferred
- Pay: Up to $40.00/hr
- Hours: Monday–Friday, 8 hours/day (full-time, 5 days a week)
- Contract Only: This is a temporary, contract role (no temp-to-hire or direct hire conversion).
