Location/Division Specific Information:
The BioServices Team at the Rockville, MD site focuses on the receipt, inventory storage, withdrawal, and shipment of biological specimens, samples, clinical agents, and materials from multiple commercial and government clients.

How Will You Make an Impact?
The Material Handler II supports operations by storing and shipping materials at temperatures ranging from ambient (room temperature) to -196°C with potentially hazardous properties.

A Day in the Life:

  • Receive incoming raw materials
  • Facilitate movement of materials, including hazardous materials, across the site
  • Maintain accurate inventory through receipts, adjustments, and cycle counts
  • Efficiently and accurately perform material handling duties such as receiving, storing, and distributing materials and products
  • Operate material handling equipment, such as forklifts and pallet jacks, safely and efficiently
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely and flawless execution of orders
  • Follow strict safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Assist in the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives to optimize warehouse operations
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
Experience:
  • Minimum of 1 year of work experience required
  • Experience in distribution, warehouse, supply chain or related field required
  • Preferred: Experience with warehouse equipment
  • Ability to operate material handling equipment and obtain necessary certifications
  • Attention to detail, excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic computer skills
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Work independently and set priorities
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Collaborate as a team
  • Able to process and store specimens using computerized storage/retrieval systems
Physical Requirements / Work Environment:
  • Work in cold environments with exposure to dry ice, liquid nitrogen cryogenics, hazardous and infectious agents
  • Must use personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to safety protocols
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and push up to 70 lbs
  • Periodically work in walk-in freezers/refrigerators for up to 5 hours per day
