Machine Operator Position Summary: The Machine Operator is responsible for operating one or more previously set up Hydromat machines equipped with automatic indexing and feeding mechanisms to perform a series of machining operations on metal bar stock.
Essential Job Functions:

  • Read and interpret dimensional drawings or job orders for product specifications such as dimensions and tolerances.
  • Follow tooling instructions, including fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut, and number of workpieces to be machined.
  • Examine the machine to become familiar with tooling setup.
  • Load stock into the bar feeder and start the machine, observing its operation.
  • Verify the conformance of workpieces to specifications using preset gauges, micrometers, and dial indicators.
  • Document hourly inspections for conforming production of the product.
  • Preset and change cutting tools and tool holders to maintain production requirements.
  • Adjust machine controls and change tool settings to keep dimensions within specified tolerances.
  • Set up fixtures or feeding devices, start the machine, and engage the feed.
  • Monitor lubricants and coolants to ensure they meet specifications as defined in the machine manual.
  • Confer with supervisors to resolve machine malfunctions and production errors, obtaining approval to continue production.
  • Maintain machines according to operating and maintenance manuals.
  • Empty machine chip carts.
  • Analyze and diagnose machine and tooling problems and take corrective measures to minimize downtime and interruptions.
  • Achieve the highest safety levels in the plant.
  • Employ 5S methodology to all functions within the plant.
  • Mentor and motivate team members in safety, quality, and productivity improvements.
Typical Schedule: The position may transition to first, second, or third shift as business needs dictate.
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • High school diploma is required.
  • Trade school or machine vocational training is a plus.
  • Prior machine operation experience is required.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to bring assignments to successful completion.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
Pay rate: $18-22/hour
