Description

Job Title: Laser Operator
Shift: 2nd Shift – Monday through Thursday, 4:30 PM to 3:00 AM
Pay Rate: $19.80/hr ($18.00 base + 10% shift differential)
Training: 2nd shift employees will train on 1st shift for approximately 4 weeks (Training schedule: 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM; paid at 1st shift rate)

Position Overview

The Laser Operator is responsible for operating laser department equipment, maintaining high-quality production standards, and supporting various manufacturing functions. This role requires strong attention to detail, adherence to safety procedures, and the ability to follow specifications and established processes within a machine shop environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate laser equipment and verify the quality of produced parts.

  • Identify, document, and segregate non-conforming parts.

  • Set up repetitive or simple jobs with guidance from senior staff.

  • Monitor variations in program sequences (e.g., positioning, cycle time) and recommend corrections.

  • Work from drawings, specifications, and Traveler instructions, seeking direction as needed.

  • Report equipment or job-related issues to the Supervisor/Lead.

  • Perform production tasks and assist with assembly as required.

  • Evaluate job performance against production and quality standards.

  • Maintain required tooling to meet part specifications.

  • Conduct quality checks using fixed or adjustable precision measuring tools.

  • Assist or train others as needed.

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on equipment.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

  • Follow all safety rules, work practices, and company quality procedures.

  • Communicate job or equipment issues to management promptly.

  • Promote teamwork and maintain a positive attitude.

  • Perform multiple operations and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • 6 months to 2 years of laser operating experience, preferably in a job shop environment.

  • Experience using a microscope.

  • Basic blueprint reading skills.

Physical Demands
  • Occasional walking, sitting, balancing, stooping, reaching, and handling tools or controls.

  • Ability to lift/move up to 40 lbs occasionally.

  • Vision requirements include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision; depth perception; and focus adjustment.
