Laboratory Technician
Overview:
Join our dynamic Aircraft Deicing Fluid customer testing lab, supporting critical safety initiatives for the FAA and Transport Canada. You'll perform laboratory analyses, prepare samples, maintain equipment, and deliver reliable data that makes a difference for our clients and regulatory partners. Develop your expertise in laboratory instrumentation, chemical formulation, and data reporting in a collaborative, safety-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain a variety of laboratory equipment and instrumentation, including automated and handheld devices for refractive index, pH, specific gravity, and Brookfield Viscosity.
- Prepare, test, and analyze chemical formulations to support both technical service initiatives and manufacturing requests.
- Execute laboratory work requests, manage daily laboratory operations, maintain apparatus and consumables, and accurately record all test results and observations.
- Apply good laboratory practices to ensure high-quality, reliable data; organize results into charts and tables for clear presentation to stakeholders.
- Independently interpret and communicate test findings, including timely reporting of unexpected results to the team.
- Troubleshoot equipment, perform or initiate necessary repairs, and propose procedural or equipment improvements to boost efficiency, effectiveness, and safety.
- Collaborate actively in team meetings, contributing to safety, process improvement, and problem-solving discussions.
- Take personal responsibility for Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) compliance, including wearing appropriate safety equipment (goggles, lab coats, steel-toed shoes) and upholding safe operating practices.
- Maintain inventories of chemicals, materials, and supplies related to lab activities.
- Compile and submit data reports to customers via email, ensuring timely and accurate communication.
Required Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; ability to quickly learn new data systems.
- Knowledge of chemical laboratory operations and EH&S protocols is preferred.
- Strong multi-tasking, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective team collaborator and communicator.
- Ability and willingness to work in a lab environment for extended periods, wearing safety gear as required.
- Must be able to stand or walk for long durations.
Experience Requirements:
- Completion of vocational education or upper secondary education (High School Diploma) plus relevant experience in laboratory, manufacturing, or related fields.
- OR: Post-secondary coursework in chemistry or equivalent experience.
- Fresh graduates are welcome! Candidates without a degree must have applicable laboratory, manufacturing, or related experience.
