Job Title: Research & Development Technician (Long-Term Contract)

Location: Baytown, TX

Position Summary

The Research & Development Laboratory Technologist  will be responsible for operating and maintaining a variety of analytical instruments used in material and product characterization. This contract position offers hands-on training for recent graduates in a dynamic research environment, supporting innovative projects within the company's global R&D portfolio.

The role involves performing analytical testing, ensuring data accuracy and quality, participating in research safety programs, and collaborating with scientific and technical staff to support the development of new technologies and products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot analytical and characterization equipment used in R&D laboratories, including but not limited to:

    • Particle size analyzers

    • X-ray diffraction (XRD)

    • X-ray fluorescence (XRF)

    • Softening point measurement instruments

    • Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA)

    • Rheometers

    • Density measurement instruments

  • Perform routine and non-routine analyses in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and project requirements.

  • Record, interpret, and report experimental data to a high standard of accuracy, ensuring traceability and compliance with laboratory quality protocols.

  • Participate actively in the laboratory safety culture, following all HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) standards and contributing to safe lab operations.

  • Support research portfolio activities, collaborating with scientists, engineers, and technicians on experimental design and data reporting.

  • Conduct and support gMOCs (global Management of Change) and other administrative and documentation functions as required.

  • Assist in maintaining laboratory readiness, including inventory management, calibration schedules, and documentation control.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory efficiency, data integrity, and research outcomes.

Skills and Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Biology or related scientific field.

    • Recent graduates are strongly encouraged to apply

  • Strong technical aptitude and willingness to learn advanced laboratory and analytical techniques.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle laboratory instruments and follow detailed technical procedures.

  • Excellent data management, reporting, and documentation skills with attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary research environment.
