Laboratory Technician
Job Description:
The Laboratory Technician supports manufacturing operations by conducting laboratory analyses and evaluating results to provide critical data for operational decisions. Responsibilities include preparing samples, performing basic calibrations, conducting preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting laboratory instrumentation and methods. The technician utilizes data systems to acquire data, monitor analytical system performance, and report results to internal clients.
This role requires technical proficiency in analytical scientific methods or operational processes to perform a variety of activities. The Laboratory Technician may serve as an informal resource for team members with less experience.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Perform routine laboratory analyses as required.
- Collect samples in accordance with the Sample Plan.
- Prepare basic calibration standards.
- Conduct basic calibration and preventative maintenance of analytical systems.
- Evaluate data validity, apply basic statistical analysis, interpret results, and initiate appropriate actions.
- Monitor analytical systems, identify problems, conduct first-line troubleshooting, and escalate issues as needed.
- Document, communicate, and archive analytical and calibration data accurately.
- Adhere to Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHandS), and Operating Discipline Management System (ODMS) procedures and practices.
- Recommend improvements to laboratory work processes and tools.
- Escalate non-routine requests or issues to appropriate team members for further action.
- Perform additional duties including environmental rounds, wastewater pond operation and treatment, and confirmation of raw materials.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders
- Willingness to work in an outdoor environment
Experience and Education:
- Completion of Vocational or Upper Secondary Education (e.g., High School Diploma), plus laboratory, manufacturing, or related experience.
- Coursework beyond Upper Secondary Education in chemistry or a related field is preferred.
