Job Development Specialist (JDS) is responsible for making contact with local and regional employers for the purpose of developing job and career opportunities, and job leads for students and participants enrolled in various programs at the college. The JDS will facilitate job club and career exploration activities which prepares participants for the acquisition and retention of employment. The JDS provides technical and professional services to potential employers and participants, which meets intended programmatic outcomes. Works closely with other staff to develop and monitor Individual Service Strategies (ISS), Educational Development Plans, and/or career plans.

What a typical day as a Job Development Specialist might look like:    

1. Assists in executing job readiness portions of the program's requirements including development of resumes, interviewing skills, and retention strategies.

2. Provides job placement opportunities and job leads to eligible program participants

3. Responsible for contributing to the maintenance of programmatic and participants files in accordance with federal, state and local requirements

4.Responsible for establishing and maintaining positive relationships with community employers

5. Identifies pre-employment supportive services and makes referrals to appropriate community resources

6. Prepares daily, weekly and monthly reports as needed regarding participant activity and program performance outcomes

7. Provides follow-up monitoring and tracking of participants after placement and document employment retention and customer satisfaction

8. Documents and makes referrals to other staff for supportive services required to enable participants to retain their employment.

9. Maintains and updates employer database and remain abreast of local and regional labor market trends

10. Collaborates and shares information with other staff, departments, and community resources, to the extent allowed by applicable federal, state, and local laws, to ensure the coordinated delivery of needed services to each student.

11. Assesses transitional support needs, develops strategies to meet those needs, and works with Career Navigators.

12. Coordinates and conducts individual and group orientation sessions.

13. Assists in executing career related workshops, networking, and retentions strategies.

14. Provides mentoring and other follow-up services to participants.

15. Follows up with participants to determine level of satisfaction and success with services.

16. Ensures services administered are effective and beneficial to the participants success in the program.

17. Provides program, customers, and the general public with appropriate assistance through telephone contact and personal communications.

18. Responsible for establishing and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support student success.

19. Maintains and updates information in all required data systems.

20. Performs other duties as assigned and appropriate.

21. Consistent and timely attendance.

Minimum requirements as a Job Development Specialist:

1. Associates or equivalent combination of education and experience in business/industry, human services, education or a related field.

2. Three (3) years of professional experience in a related role in education, human services, or business.

3. Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with strong oral and written communication skills.

4. Ability to communicate effectively with program participants, staff and the general public.

5. Must possess good organizational skills and be able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.

6. Ability to appropriately use and demonstrate proficiency at the Basic level of MS Word and Excel, including web-based software and resources.

7. Must work with accuracy; possess good organizational skills.

8. Be able to handle a variety of tasks simultaneously with high quality and strong customer-oriented services.

9.The ability to work with a diverse population, staff, and community members using tact, courtesy and diplomacy.

Additional Desirable Qualifications:

1. Possession of the CDF, GCDF, CWDP, TPM and/or BSP certification.

2. Previous experience working with grant or performance-based programs with a record of successfully meeting outcomes and metrics.

3. Prior experience working with adult learners.

4. Job Development and/or job placement experience preferred.

5. Prior experience working in, or with, staffing, HR or placement industry.
