Greenhouse Technician, Johnston, IA 50131

Kelly Services is seeking a Greenhouse Technician for one of our top clients.

Duration: 11/03/2025 to 10/30/2026
Type: Contract W2
Pay Rate: $26.00/hr. (W2)
Schedule: 7:30AM - 4:00PM, Shifted schedule Wednesday to Sunday or Saturday to Wednesday.

Description:

We are looking for a responsible and highly motivated weekend shifted worker to join the Controlled Environments Team. Here, you will help us grow what's next. We have an exciting opportunity to join our company at our Johnston, Iowa research facility. This position will primarily assist with preparation and execution of routine duties such as seeding, pollinating, transplanting plants, watering, harvesting, tissue sampling, and data collection and handling, along with general greenhouse work while maintaining a professional, clean, and safe work environment and meeting all compliance standards. We are looking for candidates who take initiative, love to learn, work hard, and have a stable work history. 4-acre large facility, lots of walking, smoke free campus; chemicals used in the facility

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for daily greenhouse plant care, including seeding, pollination, transplanting, watering, harvesting, and seed management for corn, soybean, wheat, canola, and additional crop varieties.
  • Collect and prepare small plant tissue samples for laboratory analysis, ensuring accurate sample identification and proper storage conditions for large volumes of specimens.
  • Support experimental procedures, assist in data collection, and maintain comprehensive records.
  • Perform routine greenhouse sanitation tasks, such as disposing of regulated materials and destroying waste in accordance with safety protocols.

Job Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in agriculture, horticulture, entomology, or a related plant science discipline preferred but not mandatory. Alternatively, two or more years of relevant experience or equivalent education will be considered.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to adhere to standard operating procedures and safety/ergonomic guidelines are essential.
  • Demonstrated communication and organizational skills, self-motivation, positive attitude, and capacity to work independently as well as within a team, with minimal supervision.
  • Basic proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), and the ability to learn proprietary research software.
  • Physical capability to stand and sit for extended periods, lift up to 30 lbs., and perform repetitive tasks in a warm, humid greenhouse environment with year-round exposure to pollen.
  • Ability to safely work around common chemicals as required.
