Duty Technician
**$42/hour + $4.98/hour health and welfare benefit**

Kelly Government Solutions is hiring for a duty technician on a U.S. Department of Energy contract with our customer in Menlo Park, CA.  This is a contract to hire opportunity.

Job Description:
The Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) Directorate at our customer is seeking a duty technician with basic vacuum, mechanical or electronic experience to join their Technical Support team. Duty technicians are responsible for providing support to scientific users in each of our experimental hutches and for performing regular rounds verifying that all safety systems and measures are in place. The Duty technician provides support to scientists, engineers, and scientific users/research and monitors facility operation and logging of safety work permits when necessary. This position is expected to be detail oriented and to work under the general supervision of the duty technician supervisor and independently during swing and weekend hours.
The Duty Technician has daily and hourly facility rounds to make and then reacts to users and scientists as they request supplies, tools, or report problems that would then require escalation to a call-in list, the Building Manager, an Area Manager or the Duty Technician's direct supervisor. All work is approached with strict adherence to site-specific safety as well as work planning and control (WPC) protocols. When any safety event occurs which requires evacuation the Duty Technician will act as the Facility Point of Contact. Duty Technicians also provide Facility Search training to visiting and resident Science Staff.

Note: Position is expected to work holidays, nights, weekends, rotating shifts, and alternate work schedules (AWS), which may consist of 4-10s, or other shifts as needed.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Under direct supervision and perform routine assignments in multiple disciplines including but not limited to mechanical and vacuum technologies
  • Perform routine repairs and preventive maintenance of equipment and tools
  • Perform basic fabrication, assembly, machining, and testing of components and systems in the shop or in the field
  • Conduct regular rounds of the LCLS Facilities and support Users as they prepare for experimental operations
  • Assist with the tests and precision measurements on system components and multiple utility support systems
  • Communicate and coordinate with line supervision as to effort status, progress, and completion timelines and adhere to all SLAC safety rules
  • Assist with the monitoring and adjustments of experimental control system and instrumentation
  • Assist with the operation and diagnosis of equipment
  • Perform routine or preventive maintenance of equipment and tools
  • Utilize a wide variety of metallic and non-metallic materials, formulations and processes
  • Assist in experimental set-up work, such as start-up and shut-down activities according to prescribed procedures, and general facility preparation and documentation
  • Maintain equipment operating records and log sheets and operational data, generate simple procedures, and update documentation
  • Perform other administrative work for radiation safety
  • Other duties may also be assigned
     
Required:
  • Basic electronic or mechanical knowledge, and/or related subject matter, as obtained in vocational or trade-oriented curriculum or a combination of education and relevant work experience
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow mechanical drawings in order to assemble and install basic vacuum and mechanical assemblies
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and follow cleanroom practices and protocols
  • Demonstrated ability to work with basic hand tools to make basic mechanical assemblies
  • Ability to follow detailed procedures or work instructions
  • Experienced at working independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrate verbal/written communications skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of and ability to comply with good shop practices and safety requirements
  • Ability to precisely follow detailed procedures or work instructions in a safe and efficient manner
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of when, how and where to seek assistance from technical and/or safety experts as well as report up through line management when appropriate
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office and Google Drive office tools
  • Must possess a valid California Driver's License and a good driving record for driving vehicles around SLAC site

Preferred:
  • Working knowledge of mathematics
  • Have experience in the operation of cranes, hoists and forklifts to move mechanical equipment safely
  • Experience with developing written procedures
  • Proficiency with standard office applications including Microsoft office suites
  • Experience in use of precision measuring tools (micrometer, calipers, height gauge) to verify parts conformance to specification
