  • Title: Chemical Engineer - Process Safety Management (PSM)
  • Location: Akron, OH (on-site)
  • Contract | Schedule: Monday-Friday | Shift: 1st
  • Duration: 1 year + potential extension
  • Rate: Commensurate with experience

Overview: We are seeking a Chemical Engineer with experience in chemical manufacturing facilities, particularly those covered by Process Safety Management (PSM) regulations. The ideal candidate will have a background in PSM compliance, SOP writing, and a willingness and ability to learn manufacturing processes. This is a project-based position with the potential for long-term employment depending on performance and economic conditions.

Responsibilities:
  1. PSM Compliance: Ensure adherence to Process Safety Management standards and regulations within the manufacturing facility.
  2. SOP Writing: Develop and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as needed, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  3. Documentation Updates: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation related to process operations, safety procedures, and equipment specifications.
  4. Small Improvement Projects: Identify opportunities for process optimization, efficiency improvements, and risk reduction. Lead or participate in small improvement projects as assigned.
  5. Customization: Tailor projects and tasks according to individual interests and skill sets, providing opportunities for professional growth and development.
  6. Problem Solving: Collaborate with operators and other team members to troubleshoot issues, implement corrective actions, and prevent recurrence of incidents across all areas of the manufacturing unit, including utilities.
  7. Communication: Effectively communicate with operators, engineers, and management to convey project updates, safety concerns, and proposed solutions.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • Previous experience working in a production, process and/or process safety engineering role in a chemical manufacturing facility, preferably in a role involving Process Safety Management.
  • Proficiency in SOP writing and documentation management.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proactive attitude towards identifying and addressing safety and operational improvements.
  • Adaptability to changing priorities and willingness to take on new challenges.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and best practices in chemical manufacturing processes.

Duration and Potential for Direct Employment: This is initially a project-based position with a duration of at least one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and project requirements. Depending on performance and economic conditions, there is potential for direct employment beyond the project period.
