Location: St. Louis
Duration: 12 months +        
Pay Rate: $28.00 – $36.00/hour


Overview

  • We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Buyer to join our team at Bausch & Lomb Surgical, a leading medical device manufacturer that makes equipment used by doctors to perform cataract and other eye surgeries, as well as sterile custom packs for each surgery.
  • Will support various procurement activities, including timely sourcing of high-quality materials and components while maintaining cost efficiency and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Plays a critical part in supporting production schedules, supplier relationships, and the overall success of our supply chain.

Key Areas of Responsibilities

Procurement and Sourcing:
  • Source and procure materials, components, and services required for medical device manufacturing.
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, and terms with suppliers to ensure cost-effective purchasing.
  • Identify and onboard new suppliers as needed to meet quality and delivery standards.

Supplier Management:
  • Evaluate and select suppliers based on quality, reliability, cost, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure consistent supply and resolve any issues promptly.
  • Conduct supplier re-evaluations and performance reviews.

Compliance and Documentation:
  • Ensure purchasing activities comply with ISO 13485, FDA, and other applicable regulations.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records, including contracts, purchase orders, and supplier certifications.
  • Collaborate with the quality team to address supplier non-conformances or deviations.

Risk and Cost Management:
  • Assess risks in the supply chain and develop strategies to mitigate disruptions.
  • Optimize purchasing strategies to achieve cost savings while maintaining quality.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with all functions, including Finance, R&D, Quality, and Engineering, to ensure high level of performance and strong customer service.
  • Participate in new product development to source components and services.

Project Management:
  • Attend project meetings to represent procurement and enforce procurement processes
  • Complete risk mitigation projects for assigned product categories

Key Relationships:
  • Contacts with other departments or offices and frequently with individuals in middle level positions; consulting on problems which necessitate judgment and tact in presentation to obtain cooperation or approval of action to be taken.
  • Establish and grow relationships with key suppliers to ensure strong communication and partnerships.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 2+ years of purchasing or procurement experience preferred, preferably in the medical device or manufacturing industry
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to analyze data, forecast demand, and manage supplier performance effectively
  • Self-starter and eager to learn is a must
  • Knowledge of ISO 13485, FDA regulations, and supplier quality standards is a plus
  • AS400 experience a plus

Additional Information
  • Contract to Hire / Expected conversion in as early as a year, no guarantee
  • Hours: 7am – 4pm or 8am – 5pm, with flexibility as long as core hours are covered.
  • The role will initially be in-office every day but will move to a hybrid model: 3 – 4 days per week onsite, with the opportunity to work remotely 1 – 2 days per week after proving your ability to work independently.
