Kamehameha Schools, Hawai'i Campus is looking for an Educational Assistant to support 'aina-based educational initiatives. This position will be responsible for student supervision, ensuring safety, security, order, and accountability in the classroom and outdoor 'aina-based settings.Our ideal candidate will have a High School diploma/GED minimum and 3 years of experience working with students, preferably within 'aina-based settings.
This is a part-time, temporary position for this school year.
Job SummaryProvides support to overall school program in support of instruction and learning as directed by school leadership/ administration. Direct support to campus specialty areas (e.g. garden and reforestation, engineering, media) performing on-going maintenance and providing instructional support.
Essential ResponsibilitiesInstructional & Student Supervision Support
Assists students and teachers with direct and indirect support services in assigned specialty area (e.g. garden and reforestation, engineering, media) throughout the high school campus.
Provide support and supervision of students (under the direction of teachers) with the appropriate use of tools and equipment for executing on assigned projects and activities.
Assists with supervision of students during lunch, student events, field trips and other related classroom activities when able.
May also provide supervision before and after school at transportation pick-up and drop-off sites and during free periods.
Classroom Preparation & Support
Provide direct service, in terms of maintenance and support, to educational programs at the various subject areas throughout our high school.
Organizes and maintains appropriate supply of equipment and resources to adequately support our various projects and assignments.
Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the requirements listed.
High School Diploma or GED.
Minimum 3 years' experience in a directly related field.
Demonstrated experience in working with students.
Strong working knowledge of native plants, propagation methods, maintenance of outdoor areas.
Strong leadership skills essential to motivate and guide students.
Strong verbal skills necessary to communicate study skills methods and techniques, study skills deficiencies and attitude problems to students, staff, and parents.
Classroom management skills necessary to maintain general behavior.
Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to manage multiple assignments/priorities.
Good verbal and writing skills needed to communicate effectively with student, parents, staff, and public.
Good organizational skills required to coordinate numerous student activities.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree.
Previous experience teaching the age levels and subject areas of the specific teaching positions.
Knowledge of current instructional strategies appropriate for high/middle/elementary school students.
Sensitivity to and appreciation for Hawaiian culture and Christian values.
Ability to operate heavy machinery and powered maintenance equipment.
Physical Requirements
Able to lift heavy loads, use heavy equipment and able to use various outdoor maintenance tools
Frequently stand and/or walk, lift and/or carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh up to 200+ pounds.
Twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.
Working Conditions
Work is conducted in a classroom environment but the purpose of the work may also require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces.
Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday but evening and weekend hours are often required to meet goals and objectives.
