Kamehameha Schools is searching for an Accounts Receivable Accountant to support our Kapalama Campus! This is a defined term position, estimated 2 year duration.

Job Summary

Supports the recording and reconciliation of the student finance and the corporate accounting system for internal and external reporting requirements. The Accounts Receivable Accountant will be responsible for managing and processing the day-to-day accounting transactions. Performs cross-functional duties including, but not limited to recording of cash receipts, recording cash deposits in the finance system, preparation of bank deposits, monthly review/reconciliations of accounts, reporting and other related accounting duties to ensure accurate and timely processing of transactions.

Essential Responsibilities

Accounting

  • Processes all applicable receivables, and other miscellaneous payments accurately and timely to the subsidiary ledger within established departmental guidelines.

  • Researches, investigates, analyzes, and resolves accounting related issues through various systems and initiates appropriate action.

  • Accurately interprets and processes transactions by adjusting and/or charging billing accounts and ensures the timely transmission of monthly statements.

  • Reviews transactions submitted for processing to ensure proper recording in the general ledger as well as compliance with KS policies and internal controls procedures. 

  • Process accounts being sent to a collection agency on the agency's website.

  • Prepare and review monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts to ensure information is properly recorded in the general ledger. Ability to apply analytical skills to resolve any discrepancies.

Operations Support

  • Prepare bills, invoices, and bank deposits.

  • Prepares cash receipts for relevant bank account(s).

  • Processes bank returns, debit memos, and other bank adjustments when necessary and reconciles cash receipts to bank deposits daily. 

  • Maintains, replenishes, and balances change funds daily.

  • Reconcile the accounts receivable ledger to ensure that all payments are accounted for and properly posted.

  • Verify discrepancies and resolve clients' billing issues.

General accounting

  • Supports monthly and annual closing processes including but not limited to preparing necessary ledger entries, reconciliations, schedules, and other special reporting as necessary.

  • Responds to inquiries and requests from fiscal officers, agencies, and other stakeholders and provides timely, accurate and relevant information.

Customer Support and Community Outreach

  • Provide exceptional customer service to various constituents through multiple means (i.e. walk-in, email, phone) to address client inquiries related to accounts, payments and billing statements.  Resolves issues and discrepancies promptly.

  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure billing accuracy and resolve any issues.

Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the requirements listed.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the requirements listed.

  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience.

  • Highly proficient in MS Office applications.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, reconcile and integrate complex information from various databases and prepare reports and statements.

  • Excellent organizational skills to prioritize and handle complex, multiple and simultaneous assignments with an attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.

  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to work independently within primary areas of responsibility.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with internal/external staff at all levels.

  • Ability to analyze and conceptualize, and to work independently with a high degree of accuracy and with highly confidential information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to manage high volume transactions.

  • Prior experience in educational institution

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

  • Frequently sits, perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk or hear.

  • Occasionally stand and/or walk, write by hand, and lift and/or carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

  • Rarely twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.

  • This position may involves traveling to various locations, including neighbor islands to conduct business.

  • Work is conducted in an office environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces.

  • Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours.
