Description

Job Summary:
Under direct supervision of Orthopedic Supervisor and/or department physicians, assists the physician with minor and routine orthopedic and orthopedic surgical procedures. Instructs patients in the use of various orthopedic devices and sets up and maintains supplies and equipment as required.
Essential Responsibilities:


  • Upholds Kaiser Permanentes Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws.

  • Assists provider in patient examinations, procedures and surgeries.

  • Assists physician with orthopedic procedures in Emergency Room and Cast Room (e.g. cleansing wounds, pin inserting and applying surgical dressings).

  • Consults with provider concerning procedures and patient condition.

  • Responds to emergencies (i.e. STAT pages) and other STAT requests.

  • Applies, removes and adjusts orthopedic devices (i.e. splints, cats, bandages and slings).

  • Records and maintain patient treatment data including patient charts, forms and records.

  • Assembles/disassembles equipment and instruments ensuring that equipment is available for procedures and examinations.

  • Maintains, calibrates, adjusts equipment and arranges for repairs as necessary.

  • Ensures inventory equipment and supplies are replenished as required.

  • May orient and train new or less experienced personnel.

  • Attends conferences, meetings and in-services as required.

  • Follows standard infection control procedures.

  • Maintains clean working areas.

  • Maintains certification as required.

  • Establishes and maintains courteous, cooperative relations when interacting with other personnel, Health Plan members and the public. Assume other activities and responsibilities from time to time as directed.


Basic Qualifications: Experience Education
  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
License, Certification, Registration
  • Basic Life Support
  • Orthopedic Technologist Certificate
Additional Requirements:
Preferred Qualifications:
  • One (1) year related experience as an Orthopedic Technician.
  • Completion of an Orthopedic Technician training program.
  • Certified by the National Board for Certification of Orthopedic Technologists (NBCOT).
