Physician Gastroenterology Hepatology

CPMG is looking for a full time BC/BE Physician Gastroenterology Hepatology at 1.0 FTE to support our Lone Tree Medical Office location. Some travel between locations may be required to meet the operational needs of the department.

Transplant Hepatologist

We are searching for an experienced transplant hepatologist to join our GI & Hepatology department. In this role, you will play a vital role in the care of patients with end-stage liver disease, from pre-transplant evaluation and post-operative care. You will collaborate closely with transplant centers, transplant coordinators, and other healthcare professionals to ensure exceptional patient outcomes.

  • 50% general GI (inpatient and outpatient), 50% hepatology (transplant and non-transplant, outpatient only)
  • Transplant surgery occurs at center of excellence. Provider works very closely with hepatologists at center of excellence.
  • Supported by liver RN's and transplant coordinators.
  • APP's care for a large portion of these patients prior to transplant with over sight from physicians. Candidate needs to be willing to work with APP's.
  • The care coordination between Kaiser and the transplant center is extensive. Part of the role is determining the appropriate location for care
  • The liver team consists of three physicians, three APP's (one at each North/Central/South location), liver RN's, transplant coordinators, and a paracentesis team (led by a physician).
  • Engagement with Kaiser inter-regional hepatologists
  • Administrative responsibilities: share operational and administration duties with other hepatologists.
  • Call: Technical hospital call will be general GI. There are often emergent consultations from the general GI partners. Consideration of sharing this responsibility with the other hepatologists.
  • Education: Sharing your expertise with both the liver team, GI group, and occasional presentations to general practitioners.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations of patients with end-stage liver disease to determine eligibility for liver transplantation.
  • Manage patients on the waitlist, including risk stratification and prioritization.
  • Participate in the selection of organ donors and recipient matching.
  • Perform pre-operative workup and optimization of transplant candidates.
  • Assist the surgical team in transplant procedures as needed.
  • Provide comprehensive post-operative care to liver transplant recipients, including management of immunosuppression and potential complications.
  • Educate patients and families about the transplant process, risks, and expectations.
  • Participate in ongoing quality improvement initiatives within the transplant program.
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest advancements in liver transplantation and immunosuppressive therapy.
  • Potential involvement in clinical research activities.

Qualifications:

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.
  • Board certification in Gastroenterology, and Transplant Hepatology.
  • Demonstrated experience in pre- and post-operative care of liver transplant recipients.
  • Excellent clinical skills, including history taking, physical examination, and interpretation of diagnostic tests.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
  • Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.
  • Eligibility for licensure in the state of Colorado.

Employment Requirement: Colorado Permanente Medical Group, P.C. staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have established a qualified medical or religious, exemption by September 17, 2021. All persons offered a position will be required to provide valid proof of vaccination or qualifying exemption prior to starting employment.
