PURPOSE OF POSITION:
- Oversee the purchasing/procurement team who purchases ~$60MM annually between supplies and pharmaceuticals
- Manage our supplier partnerships with routine and frequent evaluations to ensure we're receiving the best prices
- Responsible for finding the best product for the right price
- Ensure inventory levels are sufficient to avoid runouts, but low enough to minimize carrying cost
- Create and maintain a positive working environment for purchasing associates
- Create a culture of customer first; the customer being our production team, maintenance team, farms, and pigs.
- Maximize efficiency and effectiveness of the team
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure we're receiving the lowest price for the best products
- In effort with the Director, manage and develop good supplier partnerships
- Lead contract discussions, more important with pharmaceutical suppliers that often have language around restrictions of using other suppliers
- Optimize strategy around suppliers that offer free shipping versus freight rates to avoid double freight charges when delivering everything to Iowa Falls Distribution Center
- Manage product satisfaction surveys for the farm staff to ensure our product is meeting their needs
- Manage carrying costs and an ideal inventory for each warehouse
- Meet KPI metrics that involve inventory levels and frequent product evaluations and negotiations
- Lead company initiatives for large scale projects that require large orders and planning
- For obsolete inventory, find the best way to offload this while maximizing resale value and being cautious of carrying cost to move it out in a timely manner
- Manage new inventory item tests with frequent feedback loops that may include a more expensive item that lasts longer with less R&M, a cheaper product that may have a new material, a new supplier where we aren't familiar with quality, etc.
- Oversee the warranty process and work closely with Maintenance on execution
- Oversee utilities that include propane, waste management, diesel, electric, and water
- Provide customer service support to multiple teams responsible for daily operations.
- Assist with the development and implementation of Purchasing/Procurement SOPs.
- Attendance is critical. Be at work on scheduled days and be ready to work by the start time given.
- Be friendly, positive, helpful, team-oriented and respectful to co-workers and management team.
- Flexibility in hours during staffing challenges is required.
- Oversee the completion and execution of onboarding new purchasing/procurement associates as needed
- Find opportunities for process improvement, excess inventory, and product quality improvement

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- This position directly supervises employees and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Planning, assigning, and directing work responsibilities for others.
- Provides employees both current and new, with updated training on positions that fall under applicable department(s).
- Coordinates with human resources to respond to employee concerns or complaints.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This position is performed indoors.
- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
PHYSICALITY REQUIREMENTS

- The employee must have the ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
- This is a full-time position that will typically require at least 40 hours a week.
- 7 am- 4pm Monday- Friday are the operational hours of this team.
- Additional availability is required during staffing challenges, as a supervisor.
- Occasional evening hours and weekend work may be required as the job duties demand for a Supervisor.
TRAVEL.
- Primary work will be out of the West Des Moines Office or Iowa Falls Warehouse (98%). Minimal (1-2 times annually; 2%) traveling to Osage Warehouse, Rockwell City Warehouse, and Osceola Warehouse.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain, or other related business degree
- 5+ years of experience in procurement, supply chain, or business
- 3+ years of leadership experience
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, with SQL experience is preferred
- Negotiation experience with a track record of success
- Highly motivated and self-driven individual will receive this position
