PURPOSE OF POSITION: 

  • To lead a team in the processes of caring for and administering to weaned gilts and feeder sized gilts to assure optimum productivity. Lead, assist, and train production personnel at Multiplication sites to assure quality pig care and production goals are met. This person will assist where needed working with animals and light facility repair.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and promote a team environment of cooperation.
  • Supervise overall cleanliness of the site, including proper biosecurity, maintenance and upkeep inside and outside of facility.
  • Evaluate, discipline, and terminate employees in partnership with HR/Supervisor.
  • Assist with hiring (referrals, farm tours, etc.).
  • Plan and oversee feed usage.
  • Supply ordering and cost control.
  • Responsible for monitoring all nutrient storage facilities and reporting issues immediately.
  • Monitor the environment and the environmental (ventilation) controls in the facility.
  • Maintain accurate records using ISF protocols to complete necessary forms and electronic data.
  • Ensure all mortality are removed from facilities according to ISF protocols.
  • Ensure all animals transported off-site are fit for transport, meet minimum withdrawal requirements, and are moved according ISF protocols.
  • Order and dispense medications and vaccinations according to ISF protocols.
  • Care and management of animals to ensure that:
    1. Animals are properly fed.
    2. Water is available.
    3. Observation of all animals daily and ensuring sick animals are properly treated.
    4. Overall animal conditions are evaluated and maintained.
    5. Follow proper steps for timely euthanasia and be able to identify when it is needed.
  • Care and management of facilities to ensure that:
    1. Fans, curtains, heaters, and other equipment are working properly.
    2. Ventilation equipment is adjusted to provide proper environment.
    3. Facilities are kept clean, including power washing and disinfecting.
    4. Facilities are organized and repaired between groups of pigs or as needed.
  • Promote and demonstrate safe animal handling practices.
  • Receive, sort, and pen incoming pigs.
  • Oversee and assist with loading and unloading activities.
  • Provide feedback to Multiplication managers, Supervisor or Senior Management.
  • Provide regular communication to supervisor on production, employee and/or site issues so supervisor knows what issues are at the site.
  • Computer knowledge/skills - able to run reports, data entry, email, word documents, excel documents, and able to navigate the ISF Tools site to be able to find important company documents.
  • Responsible to understand and troubleshoot alarm systems and ensure a response is initiated for 100% of these notifications.
  • Data entry for Multiplication nursery and/or grower site - including vaccinations, treatments, mortality, work tickets, feed orders, and environmental services.
  • Understands company production and incentive packages and motivates employees to achieve these results.
  • Responsible for ensuring employees work in a safe manner and use personal protective equipment (PPE) when required, keeping employees motivated to perform at a high level to achieve production results and ensure all employees are being trained.
  • Keep farm, work schedules, paperwork and people organized.
  • Achieve consistent results.
  • Provide a unified leadership message with supervisor.
  • Be effective in conflict resolution by addressing conflict quickly to keep moral at farm high.
  • Take action immediately by partnering with appropriate departments when made aware of policy violations.
  • Timely documentation utilizing MEP tools.
  • The three key responsibilities listed above are all tracked via audits, you play a critical role in the success of audits for the entire farm which also impacts incentive bonus payouts.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This position directly supervises employees and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position is performed indoors.
  • This position may require some tasks to be performed in outside weather conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibrations.  
  • The environment you will be working will have nuisance levels of gasses and dust, particularly in the winter months 

 

PHYSICALITY REQUIREMENTS

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear.  
  • The employee must be able to continuously repeat necessary movements such as bending, lifting and different hand movements as needed to complete tasks
  • Physical requirements include the ability to lift at least 40 pounds and remove mortality weighing up to 300 lbs. with farm supplied tools.
  • Ability to climb over gates up to 48 inches in height 

 

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

  • This is a full-time position that will require a minimum of 40 hours per week 
  • Expected days and hours of operation include day-shift hours Monday-Fridays
  • Occasional evening hours and weekend work may be required as job duties demand
  • Weekend and holiday rotations are a requirement 
  • Additional availability may be required during staffing challenges 

 

TRAVEL

  • No travel is expected for this position

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and OTHER QUALIFICATIONS 

  • At least one-year previous experience in swine production operations is desired
