Lab Team Leader- Onsite

Intertek's Softlines Testing services enable retailers, brands and manufacturers of textiles, apparel, fashion accessories, footwear and home textiles to ensure the safety and quality of their products. Intertek performs softlines testing on items ranging from fabric samples to finished products, including apparel and footwear for children and adults (pajamas, sweaters, jeans, outerwear) and home furnishings (bedding, curtains, furniture fabric, rugs). What are we looking for?

The Lab Team Leader  responsible for managing the testing activities in the footwear laboratory and as Team Leader co-ordinate testing activities to meet the service requirements of the laboratory.

Shift/Schedule:  8 am to 5 pm local time, Mon to Fri

Salary & Benefits Information

The base wage or salary range for this position is $60 to 65 K. Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.

What you'll do:

  • perform physical, color fastness related testing on footwear products and its components
  • plan, execute testing activities with fellow technicians in the lab operations
  • monitor the workload and schedule tasks with other team members in the lab operations to meet the service requirements
  • train lab technicians on test methods, standard operating procedures and help them to improve their performance and consistency. Also, maintain an awareness of the abilities and personality of each technician
  • redirect any questionable results and ensure appropriateness of the results to the product tested, before it is delivered out of the lab
  • perform root cause analysis, initiate corrective and preventive actions to help run the operation at highest quality standards
  • Implement and follow lab Standard operating procedures as required by the Quality Manual of the laboratory
  • manage updates and changes in client programs or test methods, implement changes as required by clients or test method updates
  • manage lab verification checks required both by standard test methods and/or by Intertek standard Global practices
  • review and release results ensuring traceability and accuracy
  • manage equipment and resources in the laboratory to achieve maximum utilization of both equipment and resources
  • manage lab inventories and supplies and submit purchase requisition for supplies to lab manager and maintain threshold limit of supplies required by the lab
  • participate in technical discussions about new procedures or  test requisitions from the client and support the customer service and sales team members where required
  • perform test method demonstration for auditors, clients and support client visits
  • support ISO 17025 laboratory accreditation requirements and work with other team members to obtain and maintain the lab accreditation and other approvals as required by the laboratory
  • ensure all personal protective equipment (PPE) relevant for tasks is worn at all times
  • performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

  • valid driver's license and reliable driving record is required
  • associate degree or equivalent in terms of education, experience and/or training
  • minimum 2 years of work experience in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory set up, one year of experience in testing footwear products is required
  • Microsoft Office proficiency, including Word, Excel, and Outlook

Preferred  Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Total error score maximum of 16 from The Farnsworth – Munsell 100 Hue Test (test can be provided by Intertek during onsite interview) and Zero error in Ishihara Color test
  • Bachelor's Degree in related area is preferred.
  • Experience and general knowledge of footwear, Leather, fabrics, footwear specific testing standards, and U.S. & Canadian regulatory requirements on consumer products is preferred
