JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for all aspects of code compliance evaluations and supporting clients through all stages of product development, testing, and certification. The Senior Project Engineer manages assigned projects from product sampling and witness manufacturing through creating final certification documentation within client budgeted timelines.  This position will travel at least 25% of the time.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

Listed examples are illustrative and representative of the tasks required of this position and are not intended to be complete or exclusive. Duties may include the following:

• Conduct research of building codes and related product standards
• Develop product evaluation plans based upon research findings
• Assume total responsibility for projects as assigned including, but not limited to the following:
• Communicate with clients on building codes, test preparation, procedures, results and reporting matters
• Coordinate product testing and inspection requirements; coordinate test schedule with available personnel and equipment schedule
• Write test protocols when required and obtain approvals as necessary
• Review and thoroughly understand contract requirements and document any deviations; advise clients of extra costs as they are incurred
• Assist in preparation of major proposals via pre-bid meetings and on-site inspections. 
• Perform necessary research on special test projects
• Prepare and submit accurate and concise reports on all projects assigned
• Mentoring entry-level and mid-level project engineers
• Reviewing and approving product evaluations, test plans, design listings and listings reports authored by other evaluation services staff.
  Perform other work as required

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• B.S. Degree in Engineering or closely related field of physical science
• Demonstrate knowledge of fire testing protocols (e.g., ASTM E84, NFPA 285, ASTM E119, NFPA 286, ASTM E814
• Experience with authoring product evaluations for various test methods and product types.
• Thorough knowledge of building code provisions and fire safety regulations impacting construction materials and assemblies.
• Technical competence to effectively communicate test procedures, specifications, and results with customers while possessing skills in diplomacy conducive to working with clients through technically challenging compliance issues
• Capability of working both individually and within a team
• Good research, documentation, record keeping and technical writing skills
• Ability to understand and apply new test methods and procedures for assigned projects
• Expected to travel as business needs dictate
• Valid driver's license and reliable driving record (required)

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Master's Degree is a plus
• Professional license is preferred
• Knowledge of construction material characteristics and applications, manufacturing techniques, supply sources and engineering principles is preferred
• Knowledge of the U. S. Building Codes and applicable test standards, building design and construction, and modern construction materials and methods is preferred
