Your impact 

As part of the Software Engineering team, the candidate's primary role will be to lead development of Intelsat's Next Generation business and operation support ecosystem using solid knowledge in software design, development, and enterprise architecture.

We are looking for a proactive engineer who is comfortable working in ambiguous spaces and leading diverse teams to outcomes that are aligned to both business and IT imperatives. This role also requires significant interaction with business and technical stakeholders. Therefore, candidates must exhibit outstanding communication and influencing skills as well as a tenacity for overcoming hurdles and impediments. The ideal candidate will have a balanced skill set of deep expertise in digital technologies along with great soft skills/competencies.

 

What you will do

  • Work as a lead developer on a team developing complex distributed system using technologies such as Java, and Kafka.
  • Partner with stakeholders, both leadership and subject matter experts, to build a holistic view of the organization's strategy, processes, information, and information technology assets. Position yourself as a trusted advisor.
  • Align IT and business plans while producing architecture artifacts including but not limited to roadmaps, standards, guidelines, and best practices.
  • Partner with external clients if necessary to understand their business needs and ensure the architecture meets the IT need of each business or client.
  • Develop solutions to problems by exercising judgment and discretion. Determine dependencies, identify, and assign specific resources in agreement with the management, and communicate expectation to team members. Track progresses against release schedule and in collaboration with the project management
  • Articulate architectural differences between solution methods and the challenges and approaches to integrating solutions built on different platforms including a working knowledge of different architectural frameworks that may be used by our legacy systems.
  • Proactively seek to understand major IT and industry trends and apply them to IT solutions, new initiatives, and capability roadmaps

 

Your required experience/skills

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) and 10+ years of the professional software development experience. 
  • Demonstrate experience in the Telecom domain, with a deep understanding of industry-specific challenges and requirements.
  • 5+ years of experience in leading teams developing complex distributed software applications.
  • 8+ years of experience in designing and architecting of systems to scale.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience developing complex distributed systems using Java, Oracle or similar, Redis or similar and Kafka preferably in telecom sector. 
  • 5+ years of experience in integrating systems leveraging REST APIs and Kafka. 
  • 3+ years of experience in deploying and supporting containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes. 
  • Experience with Telecom OSS / BSS architecture and workflows.
  • Experience working in an agile environment with scrum methodology.
  • Full understanding of standards for all aspects of the software development lifecycle.
  • Willingness to question the validity, accuracy of design and assumptions.
  • Ability to explain complicated or technical information in a simple way to non-technical or executive audiences.
  • This role is subject to ITAR/EAR; candidates must be a US Person (this includes US Citizen, Permanent Resident or Protected Individual such as an asylee or refugee).

It would be nice if you had:

  • Experience with developing applications in Satellite Communications and/or Telecommunications technology. 
  • Strong ability to define alternatives, make appropriate recommendations and provide strategies for the resolution of issues at the platform, tool/utility and software levels.
