Description

We are looking for an individual with expertise in the design of research facilities for robotics, quantum sciences, AI, computing, and semiconductor R&D. This position requires architectural and/or engineering experience in laboratory design focusing on clients in the tech sector as well as light industrial R&D for both private and publicly funded entities. Expertise is required in the design of laboratories including dry labs, robotics labs, high-bay labs, cleanrooms, and material sciences labs.  This position can be located in any city where we have an HOK office.  When applying, please indicate which city and/or cities you are interested in working.

 

The person in this role will be well-prepared to serve a diverse range of clients both in the US and internationally. They will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the successful and timely completion of complex projects. Additionally, they will attend national conferences and take charge of business development activities within this sector.

 

The individual in this role will offer programming, planning, and design services for a wide array of Science + Technology projects within the advanced technology sector.  As a focused team player with a knack for creative problem-solving, they will actively engage clients throughout the design process.

 

As a LEED-accredited professional, they possess extensive knowledge of sustainable design practices and have contributed to the design of numerous facilities that are either LEED Certified or pending certification.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership

  • Responsible for the organization, budget, and growth of this market sector.
  • Acts as mentor to staff by providing technical expertise and leadership.
  • Acts as mentor by coaching and motivating design teams and individuals; fostering an environment of mutual respect and trust among members of the group as it grows and develops.
  • May act as Project Manager, Principle in Charge, or Lab Planner on assigned projects.
  • Fosters a culture of external and internal client service.

Business Development

  • Primarily responsible for new client development in this market sector.
  • Participates in developing annual business plan for the practice.
  • Identifies new business opportunities while developing current client relationships.  Develops and maintains positive relationships with consultants, contractors, and approval agencies.
  • Supports the creation of fee proposals for marketing initiatives.
  • Participates in professional associations, maintains active membership(s), and attends conferences valued by clients as appropriate.

Staff Development

  • Supports diversity and continuing education opportunities (e.g., site visits, lectures, road trips) to expose design staff to influences which will stimulate design creativity and innovation.
  • Participates in interviews and recruiting of professional staff.
  • Encourages staff exploration and innovation to achieve project design excellence and continual improvement.

  • Travel required.

Required Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of sustainability, integrated design, and LEED guidelines.
  • Knowledge of buildingSMART, Building Information Modeling (BIM).
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in architecture or engineering. Master's degree preferred.
  • At least 15 years of experience in architecture or engineering practice with prior experience in all phases of projects through post-occupancy.
  • Licensed Architect or Licensed Engineer with current registration required.
  • LEED Credential required within 6 months of employment.

 

Compensation is based on experience, qualifications, education, and location. The expected annual salary range for this position is $170,000 to $220,000.
