The Children's Crisis RN Coordinator
Summary of role of team:
- Works within the Children's CSU at East Tennessee Children's Hospital (ETCH), as well as the larger Children's Crisis Continuum.
- This position requires certification in and adequate implementation of verbal and physical de-escalation techniques that include a wide range of bodily movements including but not limited to grasping, holding another person, going down on knees, running, and walking.
- This position requires utilizing a personal dependable vehicle to conduct Center business.
- Maintaining a dependable vehicle and certified driver status is a condition of employment.
- F endorsement is required.
- CPR and First Aid Certification required.
Summary of position:
- Hires, trains, and supervises nursing staff for Children's CSU, housed at East Tennessee Children's Hospital (ETCH).
- Oversees scheduling, monitors training needs, attends daily treatment tx teams and functions in a leadership role in the multi-disciplinary Children's CSU treatment team.
- Orders supplies for the units, available for selected 24/7 on-call medical questions and/or admission protocol inquiries.
- Completes chart reviews and state reports to monitor for contract and agency compliance.
- Provides direct care to clients as needed and assists with crisis interventions and medical emergencies.
- Coordinates with all team members regarding client discharge planning and serves as a liaison with other agencies as indicated.

- Regular attendance is an essential job function. Mandatory to remain awake and alert during shift.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT
- This position will be housed at East Tennessee Children's Hospital (ETCH) where the Children's CSU will be operating.
- Staff will be expected to work in and create a therapeutic environment while meeting the medical and facility requirements for operating a CSU.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Census Tracking/ Productivity
- Takes lead role in hiring and retaining staff.
- Orients and trains staff as to treatment floor flow by end of the first month.
- Oversees overall treatment floor census and develops means to reach monthly goals.
2. Planning/Organizing
- Completes all reports within specified time frame-i.e. monthly state reports, QA/QI, etc.
- Monitors documentation to ensure compliance with MCO and CARF expectations and standards.
- Monitors staff in regard to denial logs, daily tx team meetings, overall structure of unit
- Monitors budget expenses.
3. Meet Program/Clinical Needs
- Works with multi-disciplinary treatment teams to meet client needs and oversees clinical standards of the program.
- Provides RN services as indicated.
- Responds to all flags, emails, and voicemail within 2 business days.
- Completes all chart documentation within 2 business days and adheres to MCO and CARF standards.
4. Promotes and maintains positive teamwork
- Organizes and develops team cohesion during staff meetings as indicated.
- Meets with staff on a consistent basis to address identified concerns.
- Demonstrates a consideration and concern for fellow workers and promotes harmonious relationships and attitudes.
- Works closely with other program supervisors (i.e. MCU, BHUCC, CSU, WIC).
5. Networking
- Maintains positive relationships with internal departments to meet program needs and maximize program growth-i.e. financial services, IT, etc.
- Develops a positive and working relationship with outside agencies to promote and meet needs of the program.
6. Flexibility/Adaptability
- Works non-structured hours
- Implements assignments given by supervisor by established deadlines.
- Accepts additional job duties.
COMPENSATION:
- Starting salary for this position is approximately $34.00 /hr based on relevant experience and education.
Schedule:
- The Children's Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) will operate 24/7, 365 days a year.
- The holder of this position will be expected to work shifts that meet the needs of the program operation, which may include day, night, weekend, and holiday hours.
- Regular attendance is an essential job function.
- Mandatory to remain awake and alert during shift.
Travel:
- This position requires utilizing a personal dependable vehicle to conduct Center business.
- Maintaining a dependable vehicle and certified driver status is a condition of employment.
Equipment/Technology:
- This position requires the use of computer skills with an electronic medical record (EMR), and telehealth/televideo services may be offered as part of the service delivery.
- Basic computer skills are required for email, timekeeping, and documentation in the electronic medical record.
QUALIFICATIONS - Children's Crisis RN Coordinator
Education:
- Must have a RN degree with a current/valid Tennessee license with course work or experience in the areas of cultural diversity, human development, primary care, etiology, and treatment of mental illness, alcohol and drug use, physical and sexual abuse, suicide, and intellectual developmental delays.
- Must demonstrate a working knowledge of supervisory, administrative, and clinical skills.
Experience / Knowledge:
- Associate/Bachelor degree from an accredited College/University.
- Experience in psychiatric nursing and acute care preferred.
