HDT, the world leader in the design and manufacturing of highly engineered integrated expeditionary products and solutions for military, government, industrial, and commercial customers is looking for a dynamic, hands-on Sr. Mechanical Designer in Geneva, OH. This position will develop Environmental Control Units (ECUs); heater systems; and Chemical, Biological, Radiological Nuclear (CBRN) protection equipment that will be used every day by our brave warfighters and emergency responders. The HDT Geneva facility develops and builds industrial air conditioners, flightline air conditioners, ECUs, CBRN equipment, military heaters, and much more. These products help protect our soldiers, help them execute the mission, and provide conditioned quarters, medical facilities, and billeting.
The Sr. Mechanical Designer position will serve as the primary technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) on engineering projects, electro-mechanical systems, and HVAC\\R systems supporting the successful development, implementation, and sustainment of ECU products. The position also supports modifications and revisions to current systems and products. Performs engineering design and analysis tasks with standard techniques. Works with other engineers and designers in the preparation of plans, designs, computation methods and reports, as well as model shop to produce prototypes.
The Sr. Mechanical Designer position offers a variety of engineering opportunities including product development, testing, design, analysis, 3D modeling, 2D drafting, and prototyping.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Interpret specific system and product design requirements which ensure conformance to functional, customer, and operations/manufacturing criteria
- Design various mechanical components/sub-assemblies/final assemblies, electrical schematics/wiring diagrams, refrigeration plumbing diagrams, etc.
- Create/edit models, schematics, and drawings using 3D and 2D design software
- Create/edit BOMs using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software
- Record, analyze, interpret, and communicate test data to improve or troubleshoot system design
- Implement design for manufacturability and cost
- Review, stay current with, and ensure regulatory standards are met
- Provide engineering program/project technical support to internal/external customers and suppliers to furnish, obtain or clarify information
- Use Product Data Management (PDM) software to comply with company revision control practices and ISO processes
- Follow standard project management practices
- Proactively identifies and mitigates risk
- Interface onsite with all facility associates, management, and staff
- Support, communicate, reinforce and defend company mission, values, and culture
- Adhere to all quality and safety standards
- Available for limited travel
Education/Experience / Skills / Abilities
- Associates in Mechanical Engineering required. BSME is preferred
- Custom equipment engineering design proficiency and experience.
- Ability to work autonomously, prioritize work assignments, and multi-task to meet deadlines
- Demonstrated 3D CAD design experience (Solid Works is preferred)
- Demonstrated preparation of tolerance engineering drawings in accordance with ASME Y14 design standards
- Experience with GD&T is a plus
- Experience with Bill Of Material (BOM) creation and editing
- Professional use of Product Data Management (PDM) software (Solid Works EPDM preferred)
- Enterprise Requirements Planning (ERP) software proficiency (SAP preferred)
- Understand manufacturing processes including sheet metal forming, welding, mechanical fasteners (Sheetmetal background is a plus)
- Interest in HVAC and Refrigeration equipment with understanding of HVAC\\R systems and design a significant plus
- Understanding of air conditioner rating testing (ASHRAE Standard 37) a significant plus
- Basic knowledge of system controls is a plus
- Basic knowledge of electrical schematics and diagrams is a plus
- Must be willing and able to give and receive feedback to/from shop floor personnel
- Knowledge of MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, and MIL-STD-464 is preferred
- Possesses effective oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with customers, vendors, employees, and managers at all levels of the company
- Ability to problem solve with little information
- Ability to offer opinions and commentaries while being flexible and responsive to constructive feedback by managers and peers
- Possesses quality orientation and high attention to detail
- Possesses strong computer skills with demonstrated proficiency in standard business software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office)
- Experience working with engineering project management tools
