Primary and Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operates all types of sewing machines with single and/or double needle
- Places spool of thread on spindle of machine and draws thread through machine guides, tensions, and eye of needle
- Inserts bobbin into shuttle and draws thread through slot in shuttle wall or draws thread through guide and lopper eye
- Presses knee lever, depresses pedal, or moves hand lever to raise presser foot
- Positions parts to be sewn under presser foot and needle and lowers presser foot
- Starts, stops, and controls speed of machine with pedal
- Locks end of material with back-stitch
- Guides parts under needle following edges, seams, guides on machine bed or markings on part
- Makes sure all pattern marks line up to each other
- Observes face and back stitching to detect defects and notifies supervisor when defects are caused by machine malfunction
- Observes workmanship at previously made parts and subassemblies to detect defects and notifies supervisor or quality control inspector
- Performs any repair or corrective sewing as required by the supervisor
- Selects sewing supplies such as binding, braid, cord, piping, tape, thread or webbing, according to specifications or color of material
- Cuts excess thread or material. Oils and cleans machine in accordance with the maintenance instructions
- Cleans work station area on a daily basis
- Reports daily activities using labor report cards
- Supports, communicates, reinforces and defends the mission, values and culture of the organization
- Adheres to all quality and safety standards
- Supports other projects and performs duties as assigned

Education/Experience/Other Skills & Abilities:
- High school diploma or GED preferred. In lieu of diploma, relevant work experience demonstrating the required job skills and abilities needed to successfully perform the job.
- 1-3 years of industry experience.
- Performs operations using units of length, width and depth, adds, subtracts, multiplies and divides in all units of measuring while using whole numbers.
