The Chassis Lead Engineer is responsible for providing guidance/direction to team of engineers and designers including driving technology and completion of projects on time and budget. Responsible for the design, development, implementation, and analysis of technical products and systems. Performs hand calculations to validate the chassis design and guides the finite element analysis (FEA) process for chassis components and subsystems. Provides guidance to other engineers and designers including drawing checking within the chassis or other subsystems. Proactively leads initiatives and effectively influences others.

Essential Duties:

  • Provides guidance/direction to team of engineers and designers
  • Designs, develops, analyzes, documents and supports testing of products, systems or subsystems
  • Directs technical activities of assigned engineers, designers and technicians
  • Strive to maintain high quality products and completing them on time and within budget
  • Mentors or coaches other senior engineers, engineers or interns
  • Serves as the source for Engineering guidance within site
  • Incorporates customer requirements into planning and work
  • Proactively identifies and mitigates risk
  • Proactively leads initiatives
  • Reports progress and status to engineering and/or program management leadership
  • Reviews customer specifications and requirements, and under direction develops designs to best support them
  • Implements design to cost and weight
  • Implements design for manufacture and assembly
  • Implements tools expected by leadership
  • Develops BOEs for the chassis subsystem or other experienced subsystems
  • Participates in preparation of less complex proposals as needed
  • Leads initiatives
  • Supports, communicates, reinforces and defends the mission, values and culture of the organization
  • Adheres to all quality and safety standards
  • Supports other projects and performs duties as assigned
  • Contribute to an earned value management system where the value of the great work you do is demonstrated and supports high-level business initiatives
  • Available for limited travel

Education/Experience/Other Skills & Abilities:

  • BS Engineering from accredited school and engineering work experience or equivalent experience required; MS Engineering and PE license preferred
  • 4-6 years of experience including experience leading Engineering personnel ability to multi-task, handling quick turnaround
  • Works independently on tasks, and professionally with teammates and colleagues
  • Strong leadership ability and effective oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with customers, vendors, employees and managers at all levels within the company
  • Quality orientation and high attention to detail
  • Strong computer skills with demonstrated proficiency in standard business software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office, Teams, etc.)
