Description
The Senior Fixed Asset Accountant is responsible for the preparation, maintenance and reconciliation of fixed asset accounts; providing accurate and timely fixed asset reports for financial reporting, property tax returns and income tax returns.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for maintaining the Fixed Asset Ledger and Sub-ledger Systems for all sets of books including tax depreciation
- Assist in annual cost segregation study
- Responsible recording fixed asset acquisitions, dispositions and depreciation ensuring assets are assigned appropriate asset type, categories and useful lives
- Responsible for the timely completion of monthly roll-forward schedules, journal entries and reconciliation for all fixed assets accounts, including new store pre-opening assets
- Monitor activities within designated general ledger accounts to ensure timely, accurate and proper classification as capital or expense items
- Work closely with other departments to monitor and track project costs and identify extraordinary items
- Work closely with other departments to periodically review, improve and update key processes, policies and procedures
- Responsible for providing timely and accurate information for property tax returns and income tax returns
- Assist with property tax return and property tax payment review
- Work closely with finance, tax and other departments to ensure accurate fixed asset information is being utilized for the preparation of forecasts and tax-related entries
- Perform periodic review of fixed assets ledger for Ghost Assets
- Supervise, train and mentor staff
- Crosstrain with other members of the accounting team to ensure adequate back-ups for all tasks and an equitable distribution of departmental responsibilities
- Manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines with high-quality deliverables
- Provide schedule for various audits, compute special depreciation schedules and impairment analysis

Requirements
Education and Experience
Education Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field preferred
- 4-7 years of related experience required
- 3-5 years of experience in General Ledger accounting and financial reporting; fixed asset experience required
- Must be highly organized with ability to manage multiple tasks at once, while keeping accurate records and maintaining a high level of productivity
- Ability to apply the company fixed asset policy to unique scenarios
- Working knowledge of US GAAP and tax law; proper internal control procedures and month end closing procedures
- Knowledge of Oracle financial systems is desirable
- Ability to provide high quality deliverables in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Diligent and self-motivated with attention to detail
- Proficient with Excel spreadsheets
