A day in the life of Equipment Technician, Anesthesia at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • The Anesthesia Equipment Technician works under the direct supervision of an OR Service Coordinator.
  • Assists the Professional Nursing Staff with coordination of anesthesia equipment and the following duties:
    1. Prepares anesthesia equipment and supplies necessary for administration of general, monitored
    anesthesia care, or regional anesthesia and support anesthesia services.
    2. Maintains inventory levels of anesthesia equipment and supplies.
    3. Assist with the anesthesia turnover between surgical cases.
    4. Assist with the daily cleaning of anesthesia machines, drug carts, and cardiac monitors.
    5. Applies the principles of Asepsis and Universal Precautions to all duties.
  • Coordinates delivery of equipment and supplies to the Anesthesia Department. Interacts with nurses
    and the anesthesia department to resolve equipment and supplies issues.
  • Cleans anesthesia equipment daily and assist with anesthesia setup. Assists with turnovers between
    surgical cases.
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.
  • Assist with monthly reports under the direction of the OR Service Coordinator. Keep daily record of temperature of refrigerated drugs (non-narcotic).
  • Assist biomedical Service Representative during inspection of anesthesia machine monitors.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
  • Lifts a maximum of 100 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 200 lbs. and standing for the length of a
    shift.
  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs required.
  • Basic computer and math skills required.
  • Knowledge of common hospital equipment used in patient care required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years prior experience in an acute care setting is preferred.
