Description
Responsible for the performance of routine and special security duties, providing a service-oriented security and safety program for the University. Security Officers serve the University in the areas of emergency services, maintenance of public order, coordination of other University services related to the Security function, and crime prevention.
Officers interact, work with and assist Gonzaga Community members of diverse backgrounds.
Security Officers support the educational and developmental mission of the Administrative Division, as well as the Catholic, Jesuit and humanistic principles of the University Mission Statement.
Essential Functions
Deters criminal activity Maintains visibility Observes and monitors campus conditions Verifies the security of campus facilities Conducts walk-throughs of campus facilities. Monitors AEDs/bluelight phones, vehicle maintenance, bicycle registration, and property room Enforces Parking Rules and Regulations Investigates and documents any violation of the University's policies. Investigates and documents any violation of the Student Conduct Codes. Investigates and documents any abnormal activity. Provides key services. Provides escorts. Provides jump starts. Minimum Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent
Valid driver's license and excellent driving record. Two or more moving violations, or one serious moving violation may disqualify an individual from operating a university vehicle.
Proven typing ability and word processing skills
Must pass extensive background check
Availability for university emergencies that may include extended duty
Ability to work overtime as required or directed
Ability to obtain or possess a basic first-aid and CPR certification.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse groups of people, including students, staff, faculty, administrators, and the general public.
Desired Qualifications
Two years college course work in a related field and/or two years work experience in law enforcement/security/public safety.
Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and ordinances
Work experience in a higher education environment
Physical Demands
Physical strength in back, arms, and legs to be able to perform tasks related to job functions, including walking, standing, sitting, bending, twisting, and reaching. Must be able to carry, drag, or restrain individuals or lift equipment in excess of 50 lbs.
Ability to sit and/or drive for long periods of time (8-10 hour shifts)
