Position Summary:

The Director of Student Development is in charge of managing the operational elements of the student experience from initial enrollment through graduation. This includes providing student initial course selection, continued planning & family meetings, contracting, and scheduling. The Director of Student Development is a robust role serving both guidance and business capacities. This requires skills in counseling, customer service, sales, report interpretation, and data entry. Candidate must have a minimum of a bachelor's degree. A candidate with college or guidance counseling experience is preferred. This person must have thorough knowledge of high school graduation requirements. This person needs to have strong communication skills and an ability to learn new systems quickly. Our ideal candidate is an outgoing, well-organized individual who is eager to work in a highly dynamic, energetic school setting.

Salary Range: $56,000-$70,000 USD

Your Day to Day:

  • Student contracting and scheduling
    • Conduct preliminary transcript interpretation for initial class selection (official interpretation by registrar) and communicate with registrar regarding any unusual circumstances.
    • Own the contracting process for parents including creating contracts for each term and managing course changes. Contracting includes intentional messaging regarding Fusion enrollment policies (mastery learning model, refund policies, payment options, absence policies, and withdrawal procedures).
    • Create and review contracts for completeness and accuracy.
    • Assist parents with payment procedures and questions using the Billing Portal, and facilitate communication with the Account Specialist.
    • Select teachers based on personality, subject matter, and availability for contracted classes.
    • Puzzle piece schedule to balance student requests, teacher availability, and maximizing enrollment capacity.
    • Manage campus master schedule.
    • Develop and manage shadow day experience for potential incoming students.
    • Select lead teachers with input from Assistant Director.
    • Complete and review contract for completeness and accuracy.
    • Maintain updated student information (grade level, status, etc) in the Student Information System.
  • Guidance Counseling
    • Maintain updated grad planning guide for each full time student based on individual post-secondary plans as communicated with parents and students (input from Post-Secondary Counselor where possible) and monitor progress toward Fusion graduation requirements.
    • Own the planning and execution of re-enrollment, including registration, course planning, scheduling, and contracting for the full year (fall, winter, spring, and summer terms).
    • Individualize student plans, schedules, and pacing, using tutoring and mentoring sessions effectively to meet student's cognitive and emotional needs (including skill building, SAT/ACT prep, executive functioning, homework support, and post-secondary counseling).
    • Stay abreast of each student's next step in terms of scheduling: know if they will go into mastery learning sessions, be ready for second semester, be ready to transfer to another school, or graduate with Fusion.
    • Periodic transcript audit for accuracy - minimum review prior to transcript request.
    • Assist families in requesting transcripts through Parchment as needed.
    • Support post-secondary application process as needed: upload school profile, transcript requests, counselor recommendations, etc.
  • Business Aspects
    • Maximize enrollment capacity of campus by pro-actively planning with the HOS for teacher hiring, scheduling and incentivizing working hours that are not as sought after in order to provide ideal schedules to students.
    • Maximizing student schedules by offering courses and programs to meet the individual student's needs.
    • Review reports in Power BI with the Head of School on a weekly basis to have full knowledge of campus goals for the next 90 days and strategize around how to meet those goals. The Director of Student Development should have a full understanding of the number of Student Impact Hours scheduled per week, per quarter, and per year as well as provide projections of positive and negative changes based on current student enrollment and re-enrollment.
    • Own the substitute teacher plan on campus (sub list available), delegate as needed, and communicate plan with leadership team, teachers, and families.
    • Utilize available reports to ensure that courses do not start without payment, and maintain ongoing, effective communication with the Account Specialist.
    • Ensure all sessions or courses are accurately scheduled and all completed sessions are rendered as taught or student absent.
    • Manage ongoing schedule additions, removals, or changes, and delegate where appropriate.
    • Ensure timely communication with all families and teachers around schedule changes
    • Provide a celebrity experience to all stakeholders (parents, teachers, students, and administrators) through the contracting and scheduling process.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree is required.
  • A background in education or guidance counseling is preferred.
  • Patience and a problem-solving approach to issues.
  • Working knowledge of high school graduation requirements.
