To support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, we're looking to add a Staff Engineer- Validation located in Farmington Hills, MI.

Reporting to the Design Quality Engineering Manager the Staff Engineer- Validation develops, implements, coordinates, and performs Design Quality Assurance program to prevent or eliminate defects in new or existing products

What a typical day looks like:

  • Support the operation of the test lab and technicians in Farmington Hills Design Centre.
  • Support the quoting and sourcing of third party labs used for product validation.
  • Ensure that the customer requirements are met and demonstrated though
  • Validation planning
  • Product assurance planning
  • Manage the timing and deliverables from other supporting disciplines to accomplish the EV, DV and PV requirements and timing.
  • Create detail validation plans that would be executed by the testing lab (DVP&Rs, ENV test plans).
  • Assist Design Engineering in the creation of the EMC test plans and execution of EMC validation.
  • Asist in determining validation requirements for design and manufacturing change requests.
  • Support failure analysis of pre- production and prototype products.
  • Work as part of the cross functional engineering team throughout the product development process.
  • Communicate and resolve validation and prototype issues with customers.
  • Interfaces with the customer regarding validation planning and results using Flex and OEM systems (i.e. Cement, eSupplierConnect, Covisint).
  • Work with Test Systems Engineering to define requirements for test and validation equipment.
  • Review and analyse customer requirements and specifications to ensure they are reflected in the functional and reliability validation.
  • Participate in the Engineering Gate Review Process.
  • Participate in Program Gate Management Reviews.
  • Participate with Business Development, Program Management, and other engineering disciplines in generating Engineering Design and Development quotes for new product opportunities and change requests.
  • Definition of customer quality goals.
  • Strong understanding of automotive electronics such as media hubs, wireless charging, connectivity, lighting, and autonomous systems.
  • Suggests and debates alternative methods and procedures in solving problems and meeting changing market opportunities.
  • Interface with customers on technical/quality issues and improvement initiatives.
  • Work with product design engineers on the prototype build process, create prototype control plans and assist with prototype PFMEAs as required.
  • Manage the linkage of customer requirements to the validation requirements to testing results and reporting.
  • Participate in DFMEA development process.
  • Coordinate testing with internal and external labs interface with validation labs as required to resolve issues.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities and initiatives.
  • Initiates the corrective action process as required and assists with the problem-solving process and tools. (i.e. 6Sigma, and Tier 1 requirements).
  • Confers with engineers about quality assurance of new product designs,
  • Supports manufacturing sites regarding existing product quality and helps to resolve issues.
  • Reviews technical publications, articles, and abstracts to stay abreast of technical developments in industry

  • Electronics experience
