To support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, this Summer, we're looking to add an Industrial Engineering Intern (Continuous Improvement Initiatives) located in our Milpitas, CA site.

Reporting to the Sr. Industrial Engineering and Business Excellence Manager, the student will assist with daily engineering tasks while learning, collaborating and working alongside Engineers and cross-functional teams.  

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Industrial Engineering Intern who is currently pursuing a Master's degree to join our team. This internship will focus on facilitating Kaizen events, implementing continuous improvement initiatives, and utilizing Lean manufacturing tools and Six Sigma methodologies. The ideal candidate will also have an interest in applying machine learning techniques to enhance operational efficiency and drive process improvements.

What a typical day looks like:

  • Assist in planning and executing Kaizen events aimed at driving continuous improvement within various operational areas.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify improvement opportunities and develop action plans.
  • Facilitate workshops and brainstorming sessions to engage team members in the Kaizen process.
  • Support the development and implementation of continuous improvement strategies across the organization.
  • Analyze current processes to identify inefficiencies and recommend solutions using Lean principles.
  • Monitor and measure the impact of improvement initiatives, providing regular updates to management.
  • Utilize Lean manufacturing tools (e.g., Value Stream Mapping, 5S, Kanban) to assess and enhance operational workflows.
  • Participate in training sessions for team members on Lean principles and tools to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Document and share best practices and lessons learned from Lean projects.
  • Participate in Six Sigma projects, assisting in data collection, analysis, and process mapping.
  • Support the development of Six Sigma improvement plans and assist in the execution of DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) methodologies.
  • Collaborate with Six Sigma Black Belts and Green Belts to drive project success and achieve measurable results.
  • Explore opportunities to apply machine learning techniques to enhance process efficiency and decision-making.
  • Assist in data analysis and modeling efforts to identify trends and patterns that can inform continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with data science teams to integrate machine learning solutions into operational processes.
  • Prepare detailed reports summarizing findings, insights, and recommendations from improvement initiatives.
  • Document all continuous improvement activities, methodologies used, and their outcomes for future reference.
  • Present findings to management and stakeholders, utilizing data visualization techniques to enhance understanding.

Student qualities we're seeking for this internship assignment:

  • MS level student, currently pursuing degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or related major
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Basic understanding of machine learning concepts and data analysis techniques is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders.

Internship Program Requirements:

  • Available to work 40 hours/week (in-person) for 10-12 week Summer assignment
  • Currently enrolled in accredited university
  • 3.0 minimum GPA
