Project Bridge GED Instructors work in small groups and with individual students on personalized learning plans to help students strengthen their academic skills to earn their GED certificates or for work as a pathway to stability and success.

Hourly Rate: $18.00

Duties & Responsibilities

  • The GED Instructor will create an effective and student-centered classroom environment that adheres to the prescribed curricula, assessment guidelines, and standards conducive to the learning experience including supervision of students, and to the development of students' skill levels to assist them with achieving their education and life goals through Eckerd methodologies.
  • This position will present curriculum to students in a professional manner providing online and class-based students an organized instructional program (instructional/lesson plans); and developed individualized learning plans from assessment reports to ensure students meet their education goals.  GED Instructors will also provide life skills (Career Pathways curricula) instruction to all students..
  • Conduct orientation sessions and provide students with the necessary program information and administer tests (GED Practice Tests and curricula-based tests) in compliance with standard-based practices and integrity.
  • This position will coordinate with Project Bridge Partners staff (HBI and Eckerd Workforce) regarding instructional schedules for youth participating in vocational and career training and Eckerd GED program.
  • This position may be required to travel to satellite/community-based learning sites as needed to provide instruction for youth unable to participate in class-based instruction.  She/he may also be required provide transportation of youth, as needed, and will comply with Eckerd's Fleet Safety Program.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education or a related field required. 
  • At least one year experience in coaching, training, or teaching is preferred. 
  • Must be 21 years of age or older per DJJ guidelines.
  • Experience teaching GED test prep skills also preferred.
  • Experience educating at-risk youth population a plus. 
  • Must have an appropriate and valid state driver's license and be able to meet requirements for Eckerd's Auto Insurance and be able to drive for business purposes. 
  • Required to pass a drug screen in compliance with our Substance Abuse and Drug-Free Workplace policy.

About Our Program:

Eckerd Connects' Project Bridge provides transitional services to boys and girls ages 11-21 reintegrating back to their home communities from residential commitment programs. Through an innovative partnership, this program supports the mission and vision of the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) to increase post-placement stability of youth through transition coordination from residential placement.
