Job Details

1. Manages all aspects of the private fleet's safety and training programs. Accountable for driver orientation, accident reviews, remedial safety training, post-accident BAT or drug testing program. 
  • Create, Manage, and implement safety KPIs and scorecard to ensure private fleet safety performance is best in class regarding CSA scores, DOT audits, and overall FMCSA safety ratings.
  • Manage and help create the annual private fleet safety budget. Ensures monthly accidents per million miles, injuries per million miles, and safety cost per mile are met.
  • Accountable for leading and developing all on site safety supervisors. 
  • Implement SMITH System Training and has ownership for remedial road test based on DOT guidelines.
  • Accountable for building strong relationships with drivers, site leaders, and our maintenance team through daily interactions and face to face safety meetings. 
  • Promotes a culture of safety by evaluating the safety performance of all drivers and identifying training needs.
  • Partner with our tractor manufacturers to ensure we have the best safety specification in the industry. 
2. Hires, manages and conducts performance and development reviews of assigned team. Manages workload and assists with issues across the spectrum for assigned team. Responsible for the professional development of assigned team to include training, coaching, and work assignments designed to promote team and individual growth.

3. Develops and sets strategy, design and ensure sound execution of our safety processes, policies, and procedures. Utilizes technology and software systems for improving our safety results. 


  • Knowledge of Federal Motors Carriers Safety Administration, Department of Transportation, and Compliance Safety Accountability (CSA) Program
  • Must understand paper and electronic logs, Hours of Service, and SMITH System
  • Strong written communications, oral communications, and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and be very detail oriented
  • Must be able to work in a team environment
  • Microsoft Office skills
  • Flexible work hours
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time in all weather conditions
  • Up to 50% travel
  • Bachelor's degree required. Minimum of 20+ years of work experience, at least five of which must have been in the transportation industry managing in a fleet leadership role and at least 15 years managing or directing safety operations for a medium to large truckload carrier. Multi-site transportation support environment required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. Proven leadership experience within a transportation/logistics/supply chain environment.
