The Registered Nurse - IV Therapy provides and supervises intravenous nursing care to patients of all ages and is a resource for IV-related problems or procedures for the institution. The Registered Nurse is skilled and knowledgeable in a wide range of IV therapy services, a wide range of general nursing skills as well as skills specific to IV Therapy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Initiates venipuncture according to physician's order
Possesses knowledge of varied IV access routes and assesses patient to identify appropriate method
Evaluates problems that affect delivery of IV fluids
Enforces department policies in regard to IV starts and dressing changes
Monitors venous access lines daily and assists in changing dressings as indicated
Serves as a resource person for staff nurses
Documents appropriate data on the patient record per facility protocol
Collaborates with Staff Development Clinical Instructors to provide educational resources for staff
Inserts PICC line and mid-line I. V. catheters, determines placement via x-ray follow-up and documents the procedure
Assists staff by monitoring PICC and mid-lines, declotting, performing dressing charges and discontinuing catheters with or without catheter tip cultures
Assists with difficult peripheral I. V. insertions
Plans, evaluates and implements interventions for solving I. V. related patient care problems
Provides I. V. therapy instruction and/or information to nursing staff, students, physicians, patients and their families
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Current Registered Nurse License for the state in which the nurse practices
Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable
Current CPR if applicable
TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required
Computer proficiency required
Must be at least 18 years of age
