The South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS) in San Antonio, Texas is seeking a comprehensive ophthalmologist with a special interest in glaucoma to join our team of 10 highly skilled ophthalmologists.
Here's what makes this opportunity unique:

  • Cutting-edge facilities: You'll be working in a state-of-the-art environment at the Northwest Health Care Center, which opened in 2022.
  • Advanced technology: The Ophthalmology Clinic boasts 19 exam lanes, 2 procedure suites, anterior segment and retina lasers, and extensive imaging resources. This includes:
    • 2 IOLMaster 700 (measures intraocular lens power)
    • 2 Humphrey Visual Fields (tests peripheral vision)
    • 2 CIRRUS OCT (optical coherence tomography for retinal imaging)
    • 2 ultra-wide field fundus cameras (captures a wider image of the retina)
    • Eye Cubed ultrasound (for detailed eye imaging)
    • Zeiss Forum imaging management system
  • Dedicated surgical center: Adjacent to the clinic is a new ambulatory surgery center (ASC) featuring 3 operating rooms specifically designed for eye surgeries, including cataract, glaucoma, cornea, retina, and oculoplastics. The ASC is staffed by experienced eye nurses, technicians, and anesthesia providers.
  • Glaucoma specialist focus: As a glaucoma specialist, you'll perform a range of procedures, including:
    • Cataract surgeries
    • Traditional glaucoma surgeries
    • The latest minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries (MIGS) like iStent, KDB, Xen, Omni, and Micropulse
  • Teaching and learning: The STVHCS Ophthalmology Department is affiliated with the prestigious University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio and the Department of Defense Ophthalmology Residency Program. You'll have the opportunity to share your expertise with residents and contribute to a vibrant learning environment.

To qualify:
  • You're a U.S. citizen with a medical degree and current medical license.
  • You've completed residency training in ophthalmology.
  • You're a glaucoma expert with experience in surgery.
