The Residential Construction Discipline at Delta College is seeking a full-time tenure track faculty member committed to equity, retention, and completion for student success. The instructor will be responsible for effective teaching in the face-to-face, blended, and online classroom. Potential candidates will have the ability to teach online as well as face-to-face and blended/hybrid courses during the evening, at multiple locations (Downtown Centers, Dual Enrollment Partners), and nontraditional times as needed. In addition, we seek candidates whose pedagogy, research, and continuous professional development have prepared them to engage with the college's commitment to belonging, equity, diversity, and inclusion (BEDI).

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The role of the RC/ARC Instructor is to provide knowledge in his/her field of expertise and to promote various student-centered learning activities that will stimulate an interest in critical thinking and a desire for life-long learning. Various teaching strategies, learning styles, and delivery methods including new technology systems will be utilized to reach this goal. Classes may be held in person, over the internet or using a combination or both as a hybrid course. The RC/ARC teaching position will teach, lecture and instruct laboratory course work in various Architecture and Construction related curriculum.

This teaching position requires knowledge of construction and architecture. We are looking for an individual that can cross over from construction and architecture and serve both sets of students. This will demand an individual that has education and experience in both fields. Regarding construction, the job will require that a candidate have hands-on experience in construction along with certifications and licensure. In the construction program this person must be able to teach topics from the basics of building materials and methods to specific skills of things like construction law, estimation, and mechanical systems. It is also critical that this candidate be capable of teaching hands-on courses that will necessitate having skills in construction framing and finish construction. To best serve the architecture students this position must have a person that can teach the fundamentals skills of architecture and design. These skills will include basic drafting, computer aided drafting, and also three dimensional software packages. This person should have both commercial and residential architectural experience and education. The candidate should have an understanding of the most current version of CAD design software such as AutoCAD and Revit.

The specific duties and responsibilities are as follows:

  • The successful candidate must demonstrate experience, skills, and commitment to fostering an environment of belonging, diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the mission and vision of Delta College.
  • Prepares, teaches, and evaluates assigned instructional courses (classroom and lab).
  • Updates course syllabi to reflect changes.
  • Advises students as it relates to school policies, satisfactory performance, etc.
  • Provides curriculum insight and guidance regarding continuous improvement initiatives for the program.
  • Integrate international and intercultural experiences in the college, community, and curriculum
  • Serves as liaison regarding program content and delivery between the program faculty and the Program Chair, Associate/Academic Deans and/or Campus President.
  • Participates in program advisory committee meetings as required.
  • Develops supplemental teaching materials to augment courses.
  • Creates, maintains, and updates course information as well as grades.
  • Implements new teaching strategies as appropriate.
  • Evaluates textbooks for relevancy, quality and currency and makes recommendations as necessary as per established policy.
  • Maintains accurate records of students' attendance and performance.
  • Adheres to assigned teaching load/hours.
  • Integrates new technology in instructional delivery methods.
  • Adheres to/enforce policies and procedures related to academic area.
  • Maintains a hazard free environment and practices safety in lab(s) or classroom.
  • Keeps students advised of their progress in class and when needed, refers students to the Academic Support enter for assistance.
  • Adheres to college's policies and procedures.
  • Serves the community through outreach activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction and/or Architecture or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Student centered approach to education.
  • Commitment to teaching in a comprehensive community college.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of recent, relevant professional work experience in construction and architecture (some combination of both is preferred).
  • Certifications and/or licensure in Construction.
  • Certifications and/or licensure in Architecture.
  • Experience using AutoCAD suite in both 2D and 3D applications as they apply to various Industry areas.
  • Computer troubleshooting skills, knowledge of print reading, and technical math required.

The ideal candidate for this full-time position will have the necessary skills, education, and experience to provide a true cross over between the architecture and construction programs. As the programs develop, the need to add a more commercial construction aspect has become apparent. By identifying a candidate that has the architectural and commercial construction experience, we will be able to position the two programs to grow. An individual with construction management experience/education could also serve the position well. It may be necessary to identify the individual with the highest degree of the needed skills and experience and then have that individual agree to pursue the additional skills as part of terms of employment.
