POSITION SUMMARY

  • Sterile Processing Technicians provide hospital, clinic and affiliated facilities with processed materials and equipment. They ensure they are providing a quality product for patient care by executing established procedures for decontamination, assembly, packaging, and sterilization. Perform routine inventory checks, restock supplies, and maintain stock rotation for surgical services. Sterile Processing Technicians work toward the goals of the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education and Experience:
    • Prefer previous sterile processing experience or completion of a sterile processing technician course.
  • License/Certificates:
    • N/A
  • Special Skills and Aptitudes:
      • Ability to organize, systematize, and prioritize multiple tasks.
      • Effective interpersonal relation skills, observation, and reporting skills.
      • Application of infection prevention and control principle to daily work.
      • Understanding of medical terminology. 
      • Ability to properly operate all equipment and software required for this position.
      • Exercise good judgement, flexibility, creativity, and insight to problem solving.
      • Adjust to stressful situations with confidence and good judgment.
      • Meticulous attention to detail.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
    1. Must demonstrate current knowledge of aseptic technique within he sterilization process and decontamination standards/techniques.
    2. Demonstrate appropriate decontamination disinfection and sterilization methods for type specific instrumentation.
    3. Document appropriate information as related to process steps, charges, signing out equipment, quality management data, quality control checks, infection control, inventories, and requisitions. 
    4. Perform daily maintenance of stocking shelves and inventory.
    5. Collect hospital department and clinic instrumentation for reprocessing. Deliver reprocessed instruments to hospital departments and clinics.
    6. Use tracking software to anticipate need for appropriate instruments for daily and upcoming cases.
    7. Provides just in time sterilization for instruments as needed.
    8. Maintain instruments in good repair, identify broken or instrumentation in need of repair.
    9. Provide instruments for add on cases and unanticipated needs.
    10. Demonstrate Standards of Excellence when other duties are assigned.
