POSITION SUMMARY
-
An exempt position responsible for providing orthopedic care services including assessing, diagnosing, prescribing, treating, and educating patients. Works closely with physicians and other clinicians in a team approach to patient care. Specializes in Foot and Ankle Care. Role includes a combination of clinic and operating room time during the week.

Education and Experience:
-
Bachelor's degree and successful completion of accredited physician assistant program or advanced practitioner training and certification as a practitioner (general or specialized) from an approved nurse practitioner program. Four years of healthcare experience prior to applying to PA program, plus one year of experience as PA, preferably in a clinic and/or surgical setting.

License/Certificates:
-
National certification from the National Commission on Certification of PA's (NCCPA). State PA license required or State Nurse Practitioner License. Current DEA certificate. Current American Heart Association approved BLS certification.

Qualifications
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Evaluate patients in an orthopedic setting
-
Obtain and record health histories
-
Perform physical and development assessments
-
Order appropriate diagnostic tests and labs
-
Diagnose and treat health conditions related to chronic and acute pain

Manage the health care of those patients for which they have been educated to provide health teaching and counseling
-
Works closely with Foot and Ankle Surgeons, supervising surgeon and other Foot and Ankle PA's/NP's.

Initiate referrals as appropriate consulting with supervising physician

Complete all documentation timely, efficiently and in its entirety
-
Maintain health record and document all items required for Meaningful Use
-
Accurately complete all patient notes within 48 hours

Address and complete all patient tasks daily

Assist supervising provider with completion of their tasks and assist with paperwork and forms as directed by the physician

Return patient calls as needed
