A Day in the Life of a Health Information TechnicianThe Health Information Technician is integral in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of electronic medical records, often handling the assembly, analysis, scanning, and maintenance of patient records. This role is crucial for safeguarding patient privacy and controlling access to sensitive information, while also adhering to strict regulatory compliance for information release. Daily tasks include managing both digital and physical filing systems, responding to information requests, and compiling records for continuous patient care. Collaboration is frequent with other healthcare personnel to enhance information management systems and patient data accuracy. The technician often leads training for new staff members and participates in the development of departmental policies, alongside regular data maintenance and quality control duties.
About the Health Information Management Department:Managing Health Information with Excellence
In the Health Information Management (HIM) Department at CRMC, we ensure that medical records are accurate, secure, and accessible to the payors, providers and patients who rely on them. Our team specializes in coding, data integrity, transcription, release of information, and referral coordination, playing a vital role in supporting clinical decision-making, billing accuracy, and compliance with healthcare regulations. We work behind the scenes to ensure that every diagnosis, procedure, and treatment plan is documented correctly, making healthcare safer and more efficient for everyone. Our efforts ensure that providers have the information they need to deliver high-quality care and that patients can trust the accuracy of their medical records. Whether managing electronic health records, processing referrals, sending requested records, coding or ensuring regulatory compliance, we take pride in the behind-the-scenes work that keeps healthcare running smoothly.

Qualifications
Education and Experience Required
