Job Description
The Multicultural Outreach Ambassador, on a Letter of Appointment contract, will work 20 hours a week, or the equivalent to 49.5% FTE, under the direction of the Executive Director of External Relations. This position promotes diversity, inclusion, and multicultural understanding among students, faculty, staff and community members. This role focuses on fostering an inclusive environment, supporting underrepresented student populations, and organizing events and initiatives that celebrate diversity and multiculturalism. The Multicultural Ambassador assists in developing on, and off-campus outreach; networks with community-based partners; and help organize recruitment and engagement activities to attract, engage, and support students, faculty, staff and community members.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate degree or at least one full year of completed college coursework.
Driver's license and reliable transportation.
Experience working with underrepresented communities.
Knowledge of the community college mission.
Evidenced organizational skills
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines. Evidenced great customer service experience.
Ability to work well in a collaborative team environment and maintain positive relationships. Develop and deliver training programs for faculty, staff, and students to enhance cultural sensitivity.
Build and maintain partnerships with local community organizations that promote diversity and inclusion. Facilitate community service projects and volunteer opportunities for students.
Engage in outreach efforts to recruit diverse student populations.
Serve on committees and advisory boards related to diversity and inclusion.
Collaborate with academic departments to promote multicultural perspectives in curriculum development. Assist in assessing the campus climate related to diversity and inclusion.
Collect and analyze data to identify areas for improvement and develop action plans.
Compile and distribute resources, literature, and materials related to multiculturalism and diversity. Create and maintain a resource center or online repository for multicultural information.
Skills:
Excellent public speaking, interpersonal and organizational skills.
Detail-orientated.
Bilingual English/Spanish.
Knowledge of minority communities, with demonstrated experience working with a diverse student and employee population, including all identities, ethnicities, cultures, and national origins.
Essential Functions (Responsibilities)
Serve as a resource and advocate for underrepresented and multicultural students.
Assist students in accessing campus resources, scholarships, and support services.
Plan, coordinate, and promote multicultural events, workshops, and cultural celebrations.
Collaborate with student organizations and clubs that focus on diversity and inclusion.
Organize seminars and discussions on topics related to multiculturalism and social justice.
Coordinate and participate in community events, college fairs, career fairs, group tours, and individual meetings with counselors and administrators, and help assess and evaluate the impact of engagement services and visits to inform program improvements.
Conduct outreach efforts to maintain CSN presence within diverse communities.
Network with community-based partners to include and build strategic relationships to help establish collaborations with CSN.
Maintain a database of diverse and or underrepresented community partnerships, contacts, and student engagement events.
Collaborate with Student Life and Organizations, Student Leadership Development, Office of Inclusive Learning, and other
College partners to help identify students' needs, create programming, and develop goals and services to support traditionally marginalized students locally and at CSN.
Understand campus and community resources and serve as a referral agent for students needing assistance with academic and student success services.
