Job Summary

 

The candidate for the tenure-track instructor will be responsible for developing and teaching Cybersecurity and related courses. A full-time faculty member will teach in multiple modalities both in-person classroom instruction and online. This includes synchronous live online meetings with a class and asynchronous providing video lectures, threaded discussions, and regular contact with students to motivate them to complete their course of study.  Teaching ground classes during the day/evenings at a local campus location is mandatory. The instructor will work with program directors and other faculty to continually update courses, certificates, and various CIT degrees.  The instructor will provide student outreach activities in collaboration with CIT department faculty.  Work with CIT advisory committee to ensure local IT industry professionals are providing feedback and advice to CSN to improve and enhance programs.  Regular contact with IT industry professionals to ensure a pipeline of guest speakers and internship opportunities are available to CIT students.  A tenure-track instructor is expected to participate in college and department committee assignments and work at college events as needed.  Instructors are expected to provide advice and guidance to students seeking career and academic advice related to the Information Technology field.

 

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Teach a full-time load in cybersecurity and related disciplines such as Networking and Systems Administration., Digital Forensics, and Compliance.
  • Develop and update course materials and curriculum to align with industry standards (e.g., NIST/NICE Framework, NSA CAE-CD requirements).
  • Provide academic advising and mentorship to students pursuing cybersecurity and IT-related degrees or certificates.
  • Evaluate student progress and provide clear and timely feedback reflecting program learning outcomes and departmental expectations.
  • Prepare and teach courses to a diverse and multicultural student population based on established Student Learning Outcomes (SLO).
  • Support the mission of the College and the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE).
  • Support the expansion of courses, programs, and mission of College and NSHE system.
  • Participate in the process of establishing benchmarks for institutional assessment and evaluation.
  • Support the college, school, and department goals through active and collegial engagement in decision-making and unit-level planning.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, assessment activities, college committees, and professional development.
  • Maintain industry certifications relevant to cybersecurity (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CISSP, CEH, etc.).
  • Collaborate with industry partners, advisory boards, and workforce development initiatives to align program offerings with labor market needs.
  • Support efforts to recruit and retain students, particularly underrepresented populations in technology.
  • Deliver instruction in various formats, including face-to-face, hybrid, and online.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution.
    OR
  • Bachelor's degree in the Information Technology field with industry experience in cybersecurity or closely related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience at the college level or equivalent professional training experience.
  • At least two years of industry experience in cybersecurity/networking/systems administration roles.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrate evidence of outstanding ability as a teacher commensurate with experience. This could include:

  • Industry certifications such as Security+, CISSP, CEH, CISA, Network+, A+, Linux, or equivalent.
  • Experience teaching in a community college setting.
  • Experience developing curriculum or participating in program accreditation (e.g., CAE-CD).
  • Familiarity with hands-on labs, simulations, or virtual lab environments (e.g., Cisco NetAcad, Cyber Range).
  • Experience teaching in online and hybrid formats using Canvas or similar learning management systems.
  • Strong communication skills and a commitment to student success.

 

The ideal candidate should possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Appropriate and up-to-date knowledge of the Computing and Information Technology discipline.
  • A commitment to establishing and maintaining a positive working relationship with students, colleagues, leadership, and staff of a diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Experience using technology as an instructional aid where appropriate to enhance student learning.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to maintain an established schedule, including evenings and weekends, online teaching, and multiple campus teaching assignments that may vary by semester.

Starting Salary Range

 Initial salary placement is based on educational level and total years of full-time equivalent teaching experience. For example, for an instructor with a Master's degree, the salary range would be $58,046 to $74,304 annually. The entire salary range is up to $89,166 annually with a Doctorate and 10 years' experience. A maximum of 10 years of experience will be considered for initial salary placement purposes.
